* Anambra State First Lady Mrs. Nonye Soludo says the role of women in developing and reshaping of the society can not be overemphasized. Mrs Soludo made the emphasis during the thanksgiving service of the 16th Diocesan Women Conference of the Diocese of the Niger West held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Anaku, charged women to look into the activities of their families especially in training of their children, noting that it is the women that will make the positive difference needed by the world.

* Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Anambra State Council has decorated the Traditional Ruler of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Alex Onyido as the 2023 NUJ Man of the Year. Igwe Onyido, a pharmacist, defeated other nominees to emerge the winner of the award after a very rigorous selection process, a

position previously held by the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Adaora Umeoji (the NUJ 2022 man of the year). Igwe Pharm. Alex Onyido, while speaking, thanked the union for the honour, assuring that he would not relent in impacting the world in various ways as always.

* The Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has arrested 632 suspected touts in different parts of the state after one week of its inauguration. The Director of Operations for the Squad, Mr. Solomon Onwuemene disclosed this while speaking in Awka. Mr. Onwuemene said that the suspected touts were arrested in Onitsha North and South, Ogbaru and Idemili North Local Government Areas.

* The correspondent of The Sun newspapers in Anambra State, Obinna Odogwu, has won the 2023 Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Prize for Ethical Journalism organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). Odogwu, an investigative journalist, was announced the winner of the prize at the grand finale of this year’s Press Week of the state council of the NUJ held at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka. His entry, ‘Anambra health centres where humans share facilities with snakes, rodents’ was adjudged the best by the award committee headed by the former Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief of National Light newspapers, Chief Chuka Nnabuife.

* The Special Adviser on Trade and Markets to governor Chukwuma Soludo, Chief Evarist Uba

has described the ongoing traders competition as parts of the government agenda to foster interactivity, social harmony and better well being in the state. Uba, who disclosed this at the draws for the State finals stage of the competition in Awka, assured the traders that the sporting event would enhance their health and wellbeing aside the financial benefits accruing to it.

* The five thousand beneficiaries of “1Youth, 2Skills” Solution Initiative that graduated last weekend have begun to receive their start-up seed capital and certificates of training from UNIZIK Business School. The beneficiaries received their cheques through their local government Transition Committee Chairmen as directed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. ANN gathered that the beneficiaries also went home with 10,000 cash for their transportation allowance as promised by Governor Soludo on their graduation day at ICC, Awka.

* The Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Wednesday, 1st November 2023 kicked off her two-day 2023 National Hybrid Conference. The conference which centered on the theme: “Education in a Period of Socio-Political and Economic Uncertainty” was held at ASUU Secretariat. In his address, UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, stated that the theme of the conference is apt especially at a time when the nation is facing various challenges that are economic related which hampers the growth of the very important sector connected to all spheres of human endeavor.

* An Anambra High Court sitting in Awka has restrained the embattled Uchenna Nwoye from parading himself as the President General of Ifitedunu Community in Dunukofia local government area.The court presided over by Justice Tagbo Anieto granted an order of interlocutory injunction brought by Evang.

* Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo has challenged political anthropologists across African universities  on the development of an indigenous democratic culture that imbibes the traditional values of the people of the continent.Obiora Okonkwo  who is a Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party  PDP made the call while delivering the keynote address at a two-day international hybrid political conference of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka .

 

* Barely two years and six months to the conduct of the gubernatorial election in Anambra State, there are strong indications that a plot to stop the second-term ambition of Governor Charles Soludo is said to have been uncovered. This is the climax of the internal cold war within the ranks of one of the shadowing campaign groups that saw the victory of the governor in the last election known as Soludo Support Group
