* The Frontline aspirant for Anambra South Senatorial re-run under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Akai Egwuonwu, has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, all the National and State Working Committee members of APGA, over the Supreme Court victory.
Chief Egwuonwu, in his congratulatory message, described the victory as a victory for the rule of law, stating that the judiciary must be commended for the judgement which is a victory for justice, rule of law and democracy.
According to Egwuonwu, the judgement will strengthen our democracy and discourage political and judicial rascality of any sort, as we move ahead as a nation.
* The immediate past Managing Director of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Dr. Jude Emecheta, has declared his intention to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in the Senate
Dr. Emecheta while speaking to journalists in Awka describing himself as the most qualified for the role.
He announced his bid to represent Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, vowing to prioritize security in collaboration with the state government.
* Ihiala is set for her first ever peace cum unity rally slated for Saturday 30th November 2024 at Odata central school field Ihiala at 8am prompt.
The rally is organised by Ihiala Progress Union (IPU) and endorsed by the Oluoha of Ihiala, His Royal Highness Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu.
The rally which seeks to galvanize Ndi-Ihiala home and abroad into positive actions regarding finding lasting solutions to perennial security breaches in the area, will also be a veritable opportunity to cross-pollinate ideas as to how to reclaim, reinstate and restore the lost glory of Ihiala.
* The lawmaker representing Idemili North Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Kingsley Udemezue has received an award as the best “Outstanding Man of Peace” 2024.
The awards were presented by Pechilly Investigative Media in collaboration with World Peace Advocate (WPA) in Awka, Anambra State.
In his acceptance speech Hon. Udemezue represented by his Personal Assistant, Comrade Emmandy Ezenagu,
expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the voters who recognized his commitment and hard work.
Hon. Udemezue who is the Chairman House Committee on Transport, took the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment and dedication in attracting the dividends of democracy to his people.
* Stakeholders have called for regular interactions between the Anambra State Government and citizens on the imperative and benefits of tax payment, to foster voluntary compliance by citizens and increase the revenue profile of the state.
The people made the call in Awka during the onboarding meeting for the implementation of the “Tax for Service Project”.
On the occasion, Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre, SIDEC, host of Tax Justice and Governance Platform in the State, Ugochi Ehiahuruike, said the project, being implemented in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre, (CISLAC) with support from Oxfam Nigeria, is aimed at ensuring tax justice.
* A senatorial aspirant for Anambra South Senatorial District on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Paul Orajiaka has expressed his determination to address the insecurity situation in his constituency if elected into the National Assembly.
Orajiaka, who spoke to journalists in Awka, stated that the greater bulk of insecurity in Anambra State is domiciled in his constituency.
He emphasized that his decision to aspire for the senate seat is driven by his desire to use the platform to make policy laws that would positively impact the security situation in his constituency.
* The Anambra State Police Command is investigating a related recent trending voice note of a security report on how a victim escaped abduction by an alleged Security Operative.
Given reports of text messages and voice notes received by unsuspecting members of the public on threats of abduction and kidnap, the Joint Security Force comprising the Police and AVG acting on technology-driven information on Friday arrested a couple.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State, Command, Mr Okoye Kingsley aged 36 years and Mrs Chidinma Okoye aged 27 years respectively were arrested in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, recovers phones and sim cards.
The Couple specialises in sending threatening messages to people and demanding ransom or they shall be abducted or killed.
* In a bid to foster a strong civil-military relationship with host communities and the general populace, the Naval Outpost Onitsha, ACCU-Answer Limited and Chris Care Medical Services Limited, have provided free medical services to about 1000 residents of Ogbaru Council Area.
The two-day medical outreach, held at Primary Health Care Center, Odekpe, is part of a series of non-kinetic activities under Operation Delta Sanity III, directed by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
Speaking at the event, the Commanding Officer of Naval Outpost Onitsha, Navy Captain Musa Jarma, highlighted that Operation Delta Sanity aims to enhance security, particularly in the maritime sector, combat crimes, and fulfill the Navy’s corporate social responsibilities within the host community.
* The Anambra State Government through the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets to Governor Soludo, Chief Sir. Everist Uba has flagged off revalidation of shops in all the markets across the State.
Speaking during the revalidation flag off exercise which took place at Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Uba explained that revalidation of traders’ shops in the markets had become imperative, adding that Government was not only revalidating the shops but equally digitalizing them.
The SPAD noted that Government had decided to have each shop captured with the details of the owner which he said should as well be gazetted into the Government’s platform to enable the owner to transfer the ownership easily if he disposed his shop and would enhance traders on the payment of Government revenues attached to every shop.
* Nigerian writer and journalist, Izunna Okafor has been awarded the Outstanding Journalist of the Year in the 2024 Anambra Media Excellence Awards (AMEA).
Okafor received the award at the 6th edition of AMEA, which held in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
