* Utility products made in Anambra State by the Advanced Development Solutions Initiative Multipurpose Cooperative Society have been inaugurated in Awka.
The products which included wonder stove, diamond blocks and sundry utility products were presented to the public at Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka.
Addressing the gathering, the National President, Advanced Development Solutions Initiative Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Dr. Ogochukwu Soludo explained that they seek to harness combined communal efforts for grassroots mobilization, social transformation and sustainable development to become a leading, formidable, functional, transformational and impactful business-oriented mass movement for social transformation and sustainable development in the country by 2030.
In their separate speeches, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba and the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Trade and Market, Chief Evarist Uba commended the innovation the cooperative society is bringing into the system to solve numerous problems facing the country.
* The Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Nnameka Alfred Achebe has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to convene a non-partisan national economic and security summit to collectively address the various challenges facing the country.
Igwe Achebe, speaking at Onitsha, emphasized the urgent need for the government to focus on its constitutional responsibilities regarding economic stability, security, and the well-being of citizens.
He noted that many prominent Nigerians and organizations have raised alarms over the looming catastrophe in the country if issues are not managed properly and urgently.
According to him, the government should take all necessary steps to avert the impending crisis by convening a non-partisan national summit.
* It was a moment of celebrations for the entire Mgbakwu Catholic Community in Awka North LGA, Anambra State, as the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, embarked on a maiden Pastoral Visit to St Paul’s Parish.
The historic event, in which Bishop Ezeokafor blessed the magnificent St Paul’s Rectory, attracted the presence of numerous Priests and Religious in the Diocese including the Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi; the Rector, JohnBosco Seminary, Isuanaocha, Rev Fr Daniel Eduzor; among others.
In his homily at the Holy Mass heralding the epoch-making event, Bishop Ezeokafor applauded the entire parishioners of St. Paul Catholic church Mgbakwu together with their Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Cyril Chukwuma, St Paul’s Parish Priest, for the pace of development in the Parish.
* The Executive Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor, has appointed Hon. Mrs Maureen Nwakasi as the secretary of the council.
Hon. Mrs Maureen Nwakasi was the immediate past women leader of All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Anambra West Chapter and a great advocate of good governance.
Hon. Fidelis Nnazor in his congratulatory speech said her appointment is based on her exemplary, visionary, hard working, coupled with true definition of her dedication, unwavering support to make sure the council and the party grow.
According to Hon. Nnazor, I have strong confidence that this distinguished woman will swing into action immediately with me and my deputy, Hon. Mrs Edith Nkeiru Ndive and other principles to strengthen and move our beloved council to a greater heights.
* Residents in Awka the Anambra State capital have called on the state government and security agencies for urgent action to stem cult killings violence by restoring peace.
In a gruesome escalation of the cult war ravaging Awka, the state capital, three brothers from the same mother have fallen victim to the relentless violence.
The latest casualty, Nonso, was killed in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon,
November 2nd near Amaku Teaching Hospital.
According to a close family source, Nonso’s killing is linked to the murder of his younger brother, Buchi, three months ago around Mac Don Eatery.
* The Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo has flagged off the 2024 rotary family of health days at Okpuno Otolo health center in Otolo Nnewi.
The medical outreach is an annual program of the rotary international which tends to take care of various medical challenges of the citizens. It is focused on lab testing, BP checks up, Eye diagnosis, Consultation,free Eyeglasses,Free Drugs prescriptions and so on
Declaring the event open, Hon.Anazodo thanked the management of Iykon Foundation and rotary district 9142 Nnewi zone for championing this noble event for the sake of humanity.
* The stakeholders of Nnewi South in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, in a recent meeting appealed and stood united in their voice that every Local Government Area in our zone deserves fair and equitable representation in the Nigerian Senate and that the coming bye-election provides an opportunity for Anambra South to address a long-standing inequity, where Nnewi South has been left without any federal representation.
The current political landscape of Anambra South is unbalanced. While each of the other six Local Government Areas in our zone has representation at the federal level, either in the House of Representatives or in the Senate, or Governorship position, Nnewi South has been left out with nothing.
* The Mayor of Awka North LGA, Hon. ThankGod Anago has inaugurated the Awka North Local Government Legislative Congress, with a charge on members to deliver on their various mandates.
The event held at Awka North council Headquarters Achalla, featured an election which saw Mr Michael Ekemezie emerged the Leader of the congress, Mr Uchenna Ekemezie, Deputy Leader, Mr Nonso Oraekie, Chief Whip, Mr Nelson Achabe, Deputy Chief Whip, and Mr Richard Jidendu, Majority Leader.
Inaugurating members of the congress who are fourteen in number, the Awka North Mayor, Dr Anago who expressed the hope that the councilors are in the congress for selfless service, encouraged them to be focused on their task.
The Awka North Local Government Area APGA Chairman, Mr James Onwuka, and the Secretary of the party, Chief Amaechi Obiesili reminded members of the congress of the need to make the party proud through quality representation.
* A police operative attached to Otuocha Area Command, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State on Saturday shot and killed a youth of the area.
The youth had a disagreement with the policemen at a checkpoint, when one of them quickly pulled the trigger and shot him dead.
It was however not clear the argument that led to the killing of the youth, but police authorities confirmed the incident.
A source from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, who brought this to the attention of newsmen with a gory video of the youth’s dead body said the police squad involved was led by one Onyebuchi.
* The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has called on Christians to continue to pray fervently for Nigerian for God’s intervention in the numerous challenges currently confronting the country.
Governor Soludo made the call through his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim during a prayer rally organized by Province of the Niger of the Anglican Communion at Dr Alex Ekwueme square Awka, with the theme, “It Shall Be Well With The Righteous”.
Soludo who commended the church for their various efforts in interceding for the state and the country, pointed out the need for them to put in more effort, even as he assured that his government will keep partnering the church as it is an indispensable unit of the society.
