# The Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
(NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde, has
emphasized on the importance of implementing the peace accord and urged politicians to speak out against provocative utterances and electoral violence.
Olatunde who also witnessed the signing of a peace accord by governorship candidates, called on politicians to fully commit to the peace accord and help stem election violence and hate speeches.
The NSCDC helmsman noted that the Corps has deployed adequate officers and men to guide electoral materials, polling units, and collation centers, as well as other critical national assets and infrastructure across Anambra State, to prevent vandalism
# The Nigeria Police Force has declared its preparedness to ensure free, fair and credible election at the Anambra off cycle election, 2025 coming up next Saturday, November 8.
This was made known during the visit of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to Anambra State Police Headquarters, Amawbia, where he urged men of the force to behave themselves accordingly; as they will be held responsible for their actions before, during and after the election.
Represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr Ben Okolo, Mr Egbetokun praised the officers for fighting insecurity in Anambra to a standstill, advising them not to relent; but to continue to represent the force wherever they find themselves.
Speaking earlier, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 13, Mr Abayomi Oladikpo, assured that they have made every arrangement to ensure a hitch-free Anambra off cycle election.
In his welcome address, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikioye Orutugu, appreciated the IGP for being part of the signing of peace accord by all the Governorship candidates, adding that they are fully prepared for the upcoming election.
# Mr. Peter Obi, a former candidate for president of the Labour Party, has endorsed Dr. George Moghalu, the party’s nominee for governor of Anambra State in the next election.
Obi However, pointed out that the state’s electorate will choose the next governor
Tanko Yunusa, the national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, issued a statement on his official X account which he advised the state’s citizens to make informed choices when choosing their governor.
Tanko assured that the Obidients are present to offer their unwavering support for Dr George Moghalu.
# Apostle Elijah Ewundu, General Overseer of Light Transformation Bible Church Amawbia, has been inaugurated as the Commandant of the United Nations Nigeria Chaplaincy (UNC) Corp Anambra State Chapter.
The ceremony was held at the church in grand style.
The International Commandant of UNC Corp, Professor Jide Jesus Ejeh, presented Apostle Ewundu with the certificate of appointment, citing his exposure and good character as the reasons for his selection.
The new Commandant was charged to use his position to preach peace, especially during this period of election.
# The Anambra State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Emeka Obi has commended the Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area, Hon. ThankGod Anago, for his massive grassroots sports development initiatives
Surveyor Obi maintained that the initiative’s are creating sustainable opportunities for young people across the council area.
Obi, who is also the Proprietor of De Gamechanger FC, a grassroots football club based in Anambra State, gave the commendation during a chat with newsmen in Awka while assessing the impressive performance of the Awka North contingent at the ongoing Street Football Championship, popularly known as “Egwuekere.”
He praised the unwavering support of the Awka North Council Mayor, describing it as crucial to the outstanding results recorded so far.
# The wife of Mayor Njikoka LGA, Mrs Pamela Ononiba has called on women to make Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo a priority by incorporating regular exercise into their daily routines.
Mrs. Ononiba made this appeal while addressing women during a health awareness program organized to promote wellness and fitness among members of the community.
The Mayor’s wife, emphasized that exercise is not only important for maintaining physical fitness but also essential for mental well-being and disease prevention. As this was the initiative of the wife of the governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo.
She also pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote women’s health, adding that her office would partner with relevant organizations to create more awareness about exercise and healthy living habits.
# The leadership of Accord Party in Anambra State has distanced itself from endorsement of the All Progressives Congress candidate for the November eight Anambra governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
Disclosing this to journalists during a press briefing in Awka, the Chairman of Accord Party in Anambra, Prince Batho Igwedibia, explained that the candidate of the party for November eight Anambra governorship election that will hold on Saturday remains Mr Chidi Onyeze, and that Accord party has never endorsed Prince Ukachukwu as their candidate for the poll, saying that the party is solidly behind Mr Onyeze, and is contesting the election vehemently.
Prince Igwedibia described the news trending on social media that Accord Party has endorsed Prince Ukachukwu as their candidate for the governorshop poll as false, malicious and the handwork of one Innocent Igbokwe, who has been expelled from the party for engaging in anti-party activities.
He advised Ndi Anambra to beware of political dupers moving around Anambra and endorsing governorship candidates in the name of Accord Party; as they are not authorised by the party to do so.
# Across Awka and its neighbouring communities, many residents are trapped in a growing housing nightmare as rent prices have climbed beyond the reach of average earners, leaving families displaced, civil servants frustrated, and new settlers stranded in endless searches for affordable shelter.
For Mrs. Ifeoma Onwubuya, the dream of living comfortably in the state capital has become a daily struggle as each attempt to rent a modest apartment ends with frustration from inspection fees, caution deposits, and multiple agents’ charges add up to almost the same cost as the rent itself.
She laments that the situation has become unbearable for workers, urging the state government to intervene by disbanding exploitative agents and introducing direct housing management through the Ministry of Housing.
Her story reflects the widespread despair among middle and low-income earners.
Despite the abundance of new buildings across Awka, most are luxury duplexes that unaffordable for middle class and low income residents and or students hostels which are inappropriate for families.
