* Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has congratulated the founder and President of Ibeto Group, Chief Cletus Madubugwu Ibeto on his seventy-first birthday celebration. Soludo commended Chief Ibeto’s business acumen as a foremost industrialist whose entrepreneurial efforts have contributed significantly to the development of the State and Nation in general.

* The immediate past Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, Mr. C.Don Adinuba has joined the league of literary icons as he was bestowed with the prestigious Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Fellowship Award. The event took place at the Mamman Vatsa Writers Village, Mpape, Abuja.

Literary giants such as the founding president of the association, Professor Chinua Achebe, the Nobel Leaurate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Elechi Amadi, Kola Omotosho, etc, were previous award winners. 

* It was a heart-rending incident as lightning struck dead three male secondary school children while playing football in Anambra State. The students were said to be of Tansi College, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of the State. The lightning, which badgered on in Awka, struck nine of the school children while playing football barefooted, leaving three of them dead instantly. ANN gathered  that the students were Senior Secondary School (SS3), and were being trained by their coach ahead of a forthcoming football competition.

* The new Divisional Police Officer incharge of Central Police Station Onitsha Chief Superintend of Police, Mr. Rabiu Garuba said the task of providing adequate security in the country no doubt is the collective responsibility of all. While speaking in his office, Garuba renewed the call on the media and the general public to always provide the police with useful information that would assist them to excel in crime fighting. Mr. Garuba promised to carry all along in the discharge of his duty, calling on all to join hands with him as he operates an open-door policy.

* The Pentecostal Bishops Association Anambra State Chapter has organized a two-day conference with the theme: “Positive Impact in the Community”. ANN reports that the conference which attracted College of Pentecostal Bishops within and outside the state as well as Pastors from different churches in Umueri, Umuoba Anam and Aguleri was held at Umueri Recreational Club Center, Otuocha, Anambra East local government area.

* Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, the Metropolitan Archbishop and Ecclesiastical Province of Onitsha Archdiocese has charged the All Hallows Seminary Onitsha students, to uphold positive lifestyle. Archbishop Okeke gave the charge while delivering a homily to mark this year’s feast of All Hallows held in the school premises. Archbishop Okeke who commended the Management, staff and the seminarians for their doggedness in moving the school forward, appreciated them for their harmonious co-existence and called on them to pray always for them to actualize their goals.

* Men suspected to be a members of a cult group have killed a man at Ifite, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The victim who is said to reside around second market in Ifite was gunned down by his assailants not far from his residence on Saturday afternoon. A source said the man’s corpse was immediately taken away by members of his family, to avoid confiscation by police.

* The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah said

some Igbo had been deceived to believe that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is an Hausa or Fulani party. Speaking at Nnewi during a visit to the zonal leaders of the party at the residence of the APC South East Organizing Secretary, Mr Dozie Ikedife (jnr), Ubah, called on the Igbo to discard thoughts that APC belonged to any particular tribe. He described that as a wrong impression which he said he had come to correct. He said that it was only in Anambra that many had been deceived to a large extent to believe that the APC was not for the Igbo.

* The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has lost his father, Pa Simeon Nwankwo Soludo who died at the early hours of Monday. Pa Soludo is survived by seven sons, eight daughters-in-law, twenty-two grand-children and six great-grand children.

Governor Soludo noted that his late father lived a fulfilled life and died at the ripe age of ninety-two years.

* The Vice Chancellor of Peter University, Achina/Onneh, Anambra State, Nigeria, Rev Fr Prof Emmanuel Umezinwa, has said that all the academic programmes being offered by the university, have the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Umezinwa, who stated this in an interview with the press at his office reiterated the fact that Peter University, was committed to actualising its vision to be a world-class university
