* The wife of the Governor of Anambra state, Mrs. Nonye Soludo through FG/IFAD/VCDP has handed over projects and starter-packs to youth fabricators and urged beneficiaries to avoid selling equipment but use them to better their lives.
Mrs. Soludo made the official handover during the commissioning and handover ceremony in Awka where over twelve youths were empowered with different agricultural equipment after the completion of their training by FG/IFAD/VCDP.
The Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, Project aims to improve the income and food for poor rural households by engaging in production, processing and marketing of rice and cassava on a sustainable basis as well as addressing issues of financial, youth and gender inclusion, environment and climate change.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Soludo revealed the readiness of the present administration to continue to support VCDP as the programme, has through its various projects, been increasing income and wellbeing of vulnerable beneficiaries.
* Anambra State Ministry of Transport’s enforcement team, supported by several security and monitoring agencies, embarked on a road decongestion operation in Onitsha.
The decongestion effort was led by the Managing Director of Ocha Brigade Hon. Celestine Anara and the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor. Hon. Chiejina Obieze, alongside officials including Monday Desmond Nwokoye and members of the Ocha Brigade Enforcement Team.
While speaking, Hon. Obieze reiterated that the operation was directly aligned with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive, aimed at ensuring all vehicles use designated, government-approved parks.
* The Caretaker Chairman New Auto Spareparts International market Nkpor, Chief Stephen Obiora Oforleh has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for commencing the installation of Solar powered CCTV security Cameras in the markets in collaboration with House of Assembly and the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA).
The market also called on traders to sponsor and participate in the annual charity/give-away program for the less privileged tagged Good Samaritan Day(GSD).
Speaking to newsmen in his office at Nkpor, Idemili North LGA, Chief Oforleh Award explained that the installation encountered some hiccups initially because of some people who were upset on the reason why New parts market should be the first market to benefit from the CCTV Camera Installation adding that work has finally commenced.
* The Federal Road Safety Commission says it will intensify efforts towards enlightening the motoring public on the need to take proactive measures while plying the highways to reduce Road Crashes to the barest minimum.
Anambra State sector commander of the Commission Mrs. Joyce Alexander who disclosed this while briefing the press on series of measures put in place by the commission towards achieving accident-free Ember Months, maintained that the Commission will also engage critical stakeholders in town hall meetings, and commended the Anambra State Government and the Media for their support to the Federal Road Safety commission in achieving its core mandate and vision.
Mrs. Alexander said that the Commission will constitute a mobile Court as precautionary measures against those violating traffic rules especially at the Onitsha end of the Head bridge saying that officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety commission Anambra State command will continue to work assiduously in its bid to serve the Motoring public better and called for more public support and cooperation.
* The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has suspended the ban on Anambra State Football Association activities for seven days, effective November 5.
SWAN made this resolution during an Emergency Congress held in Awka on Tuesday.
The resolution, signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, the Chairman and Secretary respectively, stated that it was expected the chairman of Anambra FA would accept the olive branch and reciprocate by addressing the issues that led to the ban.
The Congress declared that members were free to cover the activities of Anambra FA during the period of truce, noting that the suspension would be lifted and the status quo restored if the expected action was not taken within a reasonable time.
* Participants at a town hall meeting organized by Connected Development in Awka, Anambra State, have appealed to government at all levels to derive its priorities from the needs of the various communities instead of asking the communities to align their with government priorities.
The meeting organized as part of ProjectTrust, supported by MacArthur Foundation, drew participants from relevant government agencies, presidents- general, community women leaders, youths and members of Anambra State Chiildren’s Parliament.
Speaking on the occasion, ProjectTrust State Support Officer, Ujunwa Ananwude, who took participants through the goal and objectives of ProjectTrust as well as activities leading to he town hall meeting, explained that the focused on three thematic areas including education, health and WASH.
* Anambra East Local Government Area Mayor, Chief Ifeanyi Chinweze has extolled the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo for her benevolence to the people displaced by flood in the council area.
Speaking when he accompanied Mrs. Soludo to Umuoba Anam, one of the holding centres provided by Anambra state government, Chief Chinweze described the Anambra first lady as a compassionate woman that places priority to the plight of those in need, especially women and children.
He applauded Mrs. Soludo for all her generous support to the flood victims and prayed God to continue to protect and bless the Governor’s wife assuring that the local government will continue to partner with the non-governmental organisation of the Governor’s wife,”healthy living with Nonye Soludo”.
The Anambra East Mayor also applauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his numerous efforts in ensuring that those in the holding centres are being taken care of.
* The Chairman of the National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Anambra State Council, Prince Comrade Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu, alongside the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Ikechukwu Ugwuoke Great, has visited the Comptroller of Labour and Employment, Bernadine Oji-Ogbuehi, in her office in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
Speaking shortly after arriving the Comptroller’s office, the NUMTEN boss thanked her for warmly receiving the leadership of the Union, saying that NUMTEN would assist her in achieving the set objectives of her office, noting that they had the personnel to drive any noble and noteworthy agenda.
Nwafor-Orizu, while addressing the Comptroller, informed her about the official inauguration of NUMTEN, Anambra State Council to be held in Awka and appealed to her to attend.
* The Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe has accused Governor Chukwuma Soludo of crippling the traditional institution in the state.
Achebe lamented that at a time when Nigeria and several other states are considering enhancing the relevance of traditional institution, it is being diminished in Anambra.
The monarch in a charge said he was surprised to wake up one morning to found out that the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council (ASTRC) which he headed had been dissolved and described as an illegal group.
* The Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, has lamented the failure of many political parties in Nigeria to live up to their duties, particularly in fostering youth participation.
Dr. Omenugha, who is also the Convener of Youths Earnestly Seek Solution (YESS), made this assertion while speaking at as a lead discussant at the YouPaD Public Policy Conversation held in Abuja, where he also dissected the critical roles youths can play in political parties to drive national development, the limitations to these, and the ways forward.
Themed “Fostering the Agency of Youth in National Development through Young People in Political Parties in Nigeria”, the well-attended event was organized by The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in collaboration with the Young Professionals in Policy and Development (YouPaD).
