# The Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,  Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding a viral video involving police officers and court bailiffs in the state.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Nneka Umeozulu, on behalf of the Attorney General, the commissioner said his attention had been drawn to the video, which reportedly showed police officers attempting to arrest a court bailiff who appeared to be executing a court judgment.

The video also contained statements by persons believed to be court bailiffs against the police officer involved in the incident.

According to the statement, the Office of the Attorney General had received complaints from several individuals alleging various offences arising from the incident.

The committee has been mandated to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident and submit its findings to the Attorney General for further action.

The statement urged all parties concerned to remain calm and exercise patience while the investigation is ongoing.

# Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has paid tribute to the late Lieutenant General (Dr.) Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor (rtd.), describing him as a distinguished son of Anambra whose contributions to international peacekeeping brought honour to the state and Nigeria.

Governor Soludo spoke at the solemn but celebratory memorial service held in honour of the late military officer at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where family members, senior military officers and government officials gathered to celebrate his life and legacy.

Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Soludo described the late general as a worthy ambassador of Anambra who served across the world in the promotion of peace, law and order.

He characterised Obiakor as “Anambra’s export to Nigeria and the world,” acknowledging his contributions to international peacekeeping and his distinguished military career.

# Government officials, community leaders, technical experts and prospective investors have explored a new economic model aimed at transforming Ogbaru and the Lower Niger Growth Corridor into hubs of industrial development and investment.

The initiative, known as the Ogbaru Riverine Industrial Park (ORIP), is being driven under the Ogbaru Summit Development Initiatives (OSDI).

The stakeholders met at a Business and Investment Roundtable hosted by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, at the Speaker’s Conference Room in Awka.

The meeting was held under the theme, “ORIP: From Host Communities to Growth Communities — Articulating a New Ogbaru Economic Model for the Lower Niger Growth Corridor.”

In his opening remarks, Udeze described ORIP as a homegrown economic model developed through more than 24 months of consultations, technical work and community engagement.

He said the initiative was designed to reposition Ogbaru from a community that merely hosts natural resources to one that actively benefits from the economic opportunities generated by those resources through investment, industrialisation, employment and local participation.

# The Anambra State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has sanctioned several judicial officers and staff over various acts of misconduct, warning that violations of service regulations will attract stringent disciplinary measures.

The Chief Judge of Anambra State and Chairman of the Commission, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, issued the warning as the commission intensified efforts to enforce discipline and accountability within the state’s judiciary.

The Executive Secretary and Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Barr. Stanley Mbanaso, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Amawbia on the outcome of the commission’s 293rd meeting.

Among the decisions, the commission directed three security watchmen, Benjamin Maneke, Charles Okoye and Uchenna Onwubiko, who were implicated in theft at its premises, to refund ₦1.895 million, representing one-third of the estimated value of the stolen items.

Mbanaso said the officers have three months, effective September 25, 2026, to make the refund or risk suspension and handover to the police for criminal prosecution.

The commission also suspended two bailiffs of the High Court of Justice, Nnewi Judicial Division, Chief Bailiff Emeasoba Onyeka Kizito and Assistant Chief Bailiff Nnamdi Ezike, for two months over misconduct, effective September 25, 2026.

# Professor Allen Adum of the Department of Development and Communication Studies (DevCom) has been elected the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.

The election saw Prof. Adum emerge unopposed, securing all 52 valid votes cast by eligible members of the faculty.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, who was represented by the Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, formally declared Prof. Adum the winner after the conclusion of the voting process.

Prof. Adum succeeds to the deanship following a unanimous endorsement by members of the faculty, reflecting broad confidence in his leadership. He is a professor in the Department of Development and Communication Studies (DevCom).

# The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Awka Zonal Directorate, located at Udoka Estate, Awka, Anambra State, has been officially commissioned.

The commissioning was performed on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

In his address, Abbas reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, to creating the necessary environment for anti-corruption agencies to effectively discharge their mandates.

The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who delivered the keynote address, said the fight against corruption and financial crimes must be regarded as a collective responsibility, stressing that no society could make meaningful progress under the weight of economic and financial crimes.

Expressing delight at hosting the EFCC’s new operational hub, Soludo commended the commission for decentralising its operations to the grassroots, recalling his personal experience with the agency after he left office as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has formally opened a three-room Value Reformation Project Office at the ministry in Awka.

Addressing stakeholders at the event, Mefor said the office was a demonstration of good faith and commitment to the value reformation mandate given to the ministry by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo. 

He recalled that a few weeks ago, stakeholders gathered to tease out ways of activating the dual mandate, adding that since then, the team had worked online leveraging digital technology to produce a working manual that is now before the Governor and the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) for inputs.

The opening of the three-room Value Reformation Project Office at the Ministry of Information is small in size but large in symbolism. It signals that Anambra’s value reformation agenda has moved from talk to work.

# The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare delivery and health outcomes across the state through the implementation of a harmonised 2027 Annual Operational Plan (AOP).

The Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr JohnPaul Onyekineso, disclosed this at the end of a four-day workshop organised by the ministry for the development, harmonisation and finalisation of the 2027 AOP.

Onyekineso said the 2027 AOP had been harmonised and finalised, with a draft copy to be produced for further processing.

He explained that the workshop brought together officials from various departments of the ministry and development partners to review planned activities, identify priority areas and align the state’s health programmes with the proposed 2027 health budget.

According to him, the plan covers key areas including health infrastructure, maternal and reproductive health, health education, disease control and public sensitisation.

He added that it would also provide a framework for stronger collaboration with development partners in areas such as malaria, HIV and tuberculosis.

Onyekineso said the overall objective was to improve access to healthcare services, reduce the burden of ill health to the barest minimum and contribute to building a healthier Anambra State.

He disclosed that a monitoring template had also been developed to track the implementation of activities and ensure that planned programmes remained aligned with the 2027 health budget.

The director commended participants and development partners for their cooperation, active participation and valuable contributions throughout the four-day exercise, noting that their commitment was critical to the successful finalization of the 2027 AOP.

# ‎The Man of Order and Discipline (MOD), Nigeria, has installed Very Rev. Fr. Aloysius Maduka Agba as the Deputy Archdiocesan Chaplain of the Onitsha Archdiocese amid jubilation at Iba Pope, Awada. 

‎The installation ceremony was held at SS John and Paul Parish, Iba Pope, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a solemn Holy Mass attended by parishioners, MOD members, friends and well-wishers.

‎In his homily, Fr. Agba described love as a universal language that transcends religious and ethnic boundaries. He urged christians to demonstrate genuine love and kindness towards others, noting that every good deed contributes positively to humanity.

‎The Onitsha Archdiocesan Commander, Lt. Col. Okwudili Ezemba, said Fr. Agba’s appointment was also in recognition of his consistent support and commitment to MOD while serving as Chaplain of 003 Ogidi Parish.

‎Ezemba called on parish priests to establish MOD units in their respective parishes to strengthen the organisation’s presence and activities across the Archdiocese.

‎He also appealed to Archbishop Valerian Okeke and other supporters of the organisation to assist in the development of MOD’s proposed Archdiocesan Secretariat at Iba Pope, Awada.

‎In his response, Fr. Agba expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of MOD for the honour and pledged his continued support for the organisation. He also urged the government to consider equipping and empowering members for security duties.

‎Fr. Agba further encouraged parents to support the training of their children in discipline, morality and service, stressing the importance of raising responsible members of society.

# ‎The Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) has hosted representatives of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) following the Ward Development Committee (WDC) Quarterly Review Meeting held for five Local Government Areas in Anambra State, with support from the Global Fund.

‎The engagement provided an opportunity to assess progress, share field experiences, identify challenges and strengthen strategies for effective community participation and improved delivery of primary healthcare services across the state.

‎Following the review meeting, the NPHCDA team held a debriefing session with the leadership and relevant officers of ASPHCDA to strengthen coordination, accountability and community-level health systems.

‎The Executive Secretary of ASPHCDA, Dr. Chizoba Prisca Ezeasor, appreciated the NPHCDA team and the Global Fund for their continued technical and programme support.

‎She reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to productive partnerships aimed at strengthening the primary healthcare system and ensuring access to quality healthcare services, particularly at the grassroots.

‎Dr. Ezeasor said ASPHCDA would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to improve community engagement and strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Anambra State. “Together, we are strengthening Primary Healthcare in Anambra State, one community at a time,” she added.
