* The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has tasked information officers under the ministry to hit the ground running by reporting all developmental activities and projects of Governor. Chukwuma Soludo, saying that they do not necessarily need to be All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) members to promote the good work of the present State Government administration.
The Commissioner gave the directive during an interactive session with all the staff cum information officers (IOs) employed in the Ministry at the Head of Service, Auditorium, Jerome Udoji, Secretariat, Awka.
Dr. Mefor expressed worry that the governor’s activities were underreported, insisting that there must be a paradigm shift.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on legislative institutions in the country to make legislation for proper training of the girl child.
In his message to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, Rt Hon. Udeze enjoined relevant authorities and agencies to abrogate policies and programmes aimed at jeopardizing the future of the girl child such as forced or early child marriage.
The Speaker advocated for adequate inclusion of young females in matters that concern them especially on education, adding that an educated woman has the power to educate the entire family.
While urging young girls not to allow themselves to be intimidated by their male counterparts both in school and at home, Udeze appealed to parents and affluent citizens to see the empowerment of the girl child as a collective responsibility.
* The member representing Anoacha One Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi has flagged off distribution of free eyes-glasses.
The lawmaker in collaboration with her NGO, Nkechi Ogbuefi Charity Empowerment Initiative, targets ten thousand (10,000) residents of her constituency.
Speaking during the flagging off ceremony held at Agulu civil centre in Anoacha local Government Area of the State, on Thursday, Ogbuefi noted that the distribution will take place across the four communities; Agulu, Adazi-Ani, Adazi-enu and Adazi-Nnukwu that formed the constituency.
Hon. Ogbuefi who is the Deputy Minority Whip in the House, explained that the beneficiaries will receive comprehensive eye care services, including, free consultations, eye glasses, eye pressure checks, acuity tests, cataract surgery, free blood pressure tests among others.

In a concelebrated Mass, the Bishop in his homily acknowledged the efforts of the Pallottines and Missionaries all over the world in bringing development and reforms in Nigeria. He said that their desire to assist the growth of the church in Nigeria was very exceptional.
He also appreciated the beauty of the chapel, just as he encouraged the people of God to emulate the aesthetics of the church to be beautiful by adhering to what was expected of them as Christians.
While he reminisced on the hey days of the apostolates in Nigeria, especially with the late Rev. Fr. Peter Jacob Hillen, SAC, Bishop Ezeokafor appreciated the efforts of the Igwe of Mbaukwu Kingdom, HRH, Igwe Peter Anugwu, whose continuous love to the Pallottines, and his welcoming spirit, according the Bishop, made the construction of the facilities in Mbaukwu possible.
* The Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, has called on all stakeholders, including parents, guardians, and religious leaders, to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in promoting the empowerment of girls through education.
In his congratulatory message, as the world marks the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, Ezeajughi emphasized the importance of education and proper upbringing for girls, urging the community to commit their well-being into God’s hands.
He highlighted that Governor Soludo has made education accessible to girls through the state’s free education policy, ensuring no child is left behind.
Speaking on the theme of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, ‘Girls Vision for the Future’, Ezeajughi emphasized the need for urgent action and the power of girls’ voices in shaping their future.
* A governorship aspirant of Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, for next year’s governorship contest, Mr John Nwosu, has declared that the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has failed in governance.
Nwosu in a message he posted on his verified X handle said a lot of indices, including failure in governance, insecurity and the recently conducted local Government Elections, had shown that Soludo was not worth a second term.
He called on Anambra people to vote Soludo out as he had failed to meet any of his promises.
* A violent clash at the Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) headquarters over the sharing of the association’s internally generated revenue (IGR), has left Chief Emmanuel Obiagwu narrowly escaping death.
The altercation stems from a leadership tussle regarding the management of a 3% welfare fund derived from the IGR.
Victim of the attack, Chief Emmanuel Obiagwu, revealed that he was beaten by alleged thugs connected to ASMATA’s President-General, Chief Humphrey Anuna, after questioning the transparency of the IGR distribution.
The ASMATA President General, Chief Anuna in his reactions, denied all the allegations, saying Obiagwu was suffering from nemesis.
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has commissioned a sophisticated modern printing equipment, known as Computer-to-Plate (CTP) machine, at Fides Media, for excellent printing service delivery.
Bishop Ezeokafor, while speaking at the
event which took place at Archbishop Albert Obiefuna Retreat Centre, Okpuno-Awka, Anambra State said the CTP machine and colour separation equipment, would undoubtedly take the services Fides Media offered to the next level in printing and information dissemination.
Also speaking, the Director, Fides Media, Rev Fr Anagboso, described the machine as a game-changer and topnotch service provider for Fides and for the clients respectively.
The Director, who said the machine was primarily for colour separation, gave a brief insight into the services it provided.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has accused Prof. Obiora Okonkwo of contributing to the state’s security problems.
Dr. Mefor stated this during an interactive session with journalists at his office in Awka.
According to Mefor, Okonkwo, who contested the 2021 governorship election, like other politicians, recruited and armed youths during the polls but abandoned them afterward, leaving them without disarmament.
According to Mefor, this has significantly contributed to the state’s insecurity.
Mefor also criticized Okonkwo’s recent interview, where he described Governor Soludo as a problem rather than a solution to Anambra’s issues.
* The Anambra State Government has intensified awareness campaign to curtailed depression among residents in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health Dr. Afam Obidike disclosed this while briefing Journalists at his office on Thursday to commemorate the day.
Obidike said the exercise has already commence across the 179 communities in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the World Mental Health Day was established on October 10,1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health. Since then, it has been observed every year with the aim of raising awareness in the global community about critical mental health agendas through collaboration with various partners to take action and create lasting change in society.
