* CEO of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Rev. Fr. Obiora Ugochukwu, has revealed that during Peter Obi’s visit to the school, Obi had accidentally overpaid the hospital’s School of Nursing by ₦2.5 million.

Obi had pledged ₦20 million to 16 medical institutions, paying in instalments, but the hospital received ₦2.5 million extra.

Fr. Ugochukwu initially thought it was an isolated mistake until other institutions reported the same. When he contacted Obi about the error, Obi was pleased with the integrity shown.

* The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Council, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor; the Chairman of National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Anambra State Council, and other labour leaders in the state has paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG), Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, in his office in Awka.

Speaking on behalf of others, the NLC boss thanked the number four citizen of Anambra State for his warm reception, saying that they came to fraternize with him and relay some of the challenges facing the workers in the state.

He commended the SSG for the way and manner he had piloted the office, saying that he had meticulously discharged his duties, describing him as a thoroughbred and a true technocrat.

Receiving the labour leaders, Professor Chukwulobelu appreciated them for coming to see him in his office and promised to assist  NLC in whichever way he could, assuring them the Governor’s continued support and partnership.

* Foremost governorship hopeful on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, for the 2025 guber election in Anambra State, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, has challenged the people of the state to support any other candidate they perceive as better than him.

Addressing top dignitaries from across parties and religious divides, as a guest of Osisioma Foundation, at Osisioma Peace Lodge, Umunya, Ozigbo said he had all it would take to be the next governor of Anambra State next year and make Ndi Anambra proud.

Describing himself as a child of grace who came from a humble and disciplined background, the business mogul said his involvement in Anambra politics was driven by his passion to redeem the state and restore it to its former glory.

* Mr. Peter Obi has paid a visit to Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital in Oraifite, a state-of-the-art medical facility specializing in cardiovascular diseases.

The hospital, built by the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, in collaboration with the VOOM Foundation, has been making significant strides in saving lives.

Obi expressed his admiration upon learning that the hospital had successfully completed 117 open-heart surgeries, 2 vascular surgeries, and 10 interventional cardiology procedures.

* The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has visited flood-affected areas in Ogbaru to assess the situation and connect with displaced residents.

Rt. Hon. Udeze who is the member representing Ogbaru two Constituency,
during his visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, encouraged those affected to remain in the camps for their safety and assured them of government support.

The Speaker promised that essential items like food, medical supplies, and mattresses would be provided to ease their burden while the flood persists.

Udeze who was accompanied by Hon. Esmai Nnamdi, Chairman of LEMCE Ogbaru, and other officials also toured key infrastructure, including the Atani-Ossomala road and the Onuko Bridge to ascertain the level of work.

* The member representing Awka South one State constituency, Hon. Nigeria Henry Mbachu has asked the governor of Anambra state, Prof. Charles Soludo, to withdraw an executive Bill he sent to the Anambra State House of Assembly for passage to avoid soiling his reputation.

Expressing concerns about the bill which requires newly elected local government chairmen to contribute a portion of their funds to a consolidated account, Hon. Mbachu highlighted what he described as the potential negative impacts, noting that it would restrict local governments from managing their allocations from the Federal Government.

Further noting that the bill could compromise Governor Soludo’s integrity and have adverse effects on the democratic environment in Anambra State, Hon. Mbachu called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to monitor governors who were undermining progress in Local Government Elections by compelling elected chairmen to divert funds to the state government

* The Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis, under the leadership of its President Rotarian Oby Arinze, has donated assorted items to female inmates at the Onitsha Correctional Centre  in celebration.

The visit was part of the club’s ongoing commitment to the empowerment of girls and women, advocating for their rights and recognizing their potential in society.

During the visit, the club members took the time to engage with the inmates, offering words of encouragement and support.

They listened to the personal stories of the inmates, fostering a sense of connection and understanding, and reinforced the belief in second chances and the power of hope.

* Anambra State Governorship hopeful under the platform of all Progressive Congress APC Chief JohnBosco Onunkwor has urged the party to unite and Chase those in State goverment House.

Onunkwor made the call during APC one day summit for Anambra State women with the theme “The Role of Women in Politics in the 21st century”

According to him, all Progressive Grand Alliance APGA has failed the Anambra State an they need to be swept out .

* The heights attained by Holy Rosary Girls College, Nsugbe and the infrastructural development in the school would not have been possible without the intervention of the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi. This is according to the Regional Leader of the Holy Rosary Sisters, Sr Ifeyinwa Muoegbunam.

Sister Muogbunam who disclosed this during the visit of Obi to the school, recalled how Obi as Governor of Anambra, had virtually overseen the provision of most of the infrastructure in the school and pledged a donation of N20m while leaving office, in addition to all he had done. Sadly, she noted, his successor failed to release the money.

But ten years after, Obi returned to the school to redeem the pledge, regretting the inability of his successor to release the money which, he, Obi, had signed and wanted him to give the school as one of the ways of drawing goodwill from the people of the state.

* Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has criticized Governor Charles Soludo’s new bill seeking to compel local governments in the state to remit portion of their federal allocations into a consolidated account to be controlled by state government.

The bill, titled “Anambra Local Government Administration Law 2024,” was submitted to the Anambra State House of Assembly earlier in the week.

Addressing newsmen shortly after its youths executive maiden meeting in Awka, Youth Leader of the party, Comrade Ekene Nnadi described Soludo’s plans not to grant his “handpicked” Chairmen and Councillors access to Federal Allocation as a demonstration of mistrust on the same people he selected.
