* The Anambra State government has launched the state Tourism Volunteers Network.

The event held at the Anambra state Film Village in Awka, attracted the Minister of Arts, Culture, Creative Economy and Tourism, Mrs Hanatu Musawa among other government functionaries.

Unveiling the state Tourism Volunteers Network during the event tagged “Anambra Picnic and Funfare”, the State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji said that his ministry decided to partner the Tourism Volunteers Network because it is in line with what Governor Chukwuma Soludo is doing in the tourism sector.

In her speech, the Minister, Mrs Musawa represented by the Executive Director, Tourism Volunteers Network, Mr Phil Roberts, said that he was excited to know that the Volunteers Network is in Anambra, as the federal government is interested in promoting tourism in Nigeria.

* The Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has embarked on an assessment tour to Ogbaru Local Government Area to ascertain the current water level.

The Acting Zonal Coordinator, South East, NEMA, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu while speaking said the aim was to enable the team gather vital information on the flooding situation as well as provide accurate reporting of the current situation of flooding in the area to the federal and the state governments respectively.

According to Echeazu, the teams have been drawn early to Ogbaru on the predictions by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (Nimet), about flooding this year, “and it is here now.”

* Managing Director of AliBan De Great Industries, Nkpor, a beverages manufacturing company, Mr. Barnabas Alih has petitioned the Police against alleged illegal invasion of his factory, by operatives of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) recently.

Alih who spoke to Journalists at the factory said the invaders who claimed to come from OCHA brigade stormed the factory without warrant or court order, destroyed the CCTV cameras and took away large quantity of products, generators and other valuables before sealing up the premises.

He said nine workers on duties were forcefully taken away out of which two were freed while seven had been held hostage for three days in OCHA detention facility without prosecution.

Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo
described absolute autonomy for local government areas in Nigeria as an impossibility, insisting that it will be a recipe for chaos.

He contended that the attendant challenges before the issue of local government autonomy are such that would certainly deepen the fate of the system and spell doom for the expected beneficiaries of the process.

* The Catholic community in Awba Ofemili, Awka North LGA joyfully welcomed another indigenous ordained priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Iloegbunam after thirty-one years since such an event was witnessed in the town.

In a sermon, the Director, FIDES School of Theology, Awka Catholic Diocese, Rev. Fr. Celestine Muonwe, cautioned Christians against insatiable quest for wealth and affluence, saying that such is against the will of God and can hinder one from entering into the kingdom of God.

The celebrant, Rev. Fr. Iloegbunam thanked God for giving him the opportunity to serve Him and humanity, promising to maintain the tenets of priesthood.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been praised by Fegge residents in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State for constructing a good road network in the major streets of the area.

A Keke driver, Mr. Ikenna Agu while speaking to newsmen, said the Soludo’s led administration has given the occupants/residents of Fegge easy access to their various houses, stating that before now, the streets had the problem of road accessibility.

He described Governor Soludo as a public oriented person who has the interest of his people at heart.

Others who spoke rained encomiums on Governor Soludo led administration for the good road network and other developmental strides in the state.

* The President General of Anambra State Market Traders Association (ASMATA)
Chief Humphrey Anuna, says he has no hand in the manhandling of a suspended member of the executive committee, Chief Emmanuel Obiagwu, Vice Chairman of Idemili Zone.

Anuna made the clarification with Journalists on Monday while reacting to the allegation that Obiagwu was beaten up by thugs on his instructions.

The President General who dismissed the claims as sheer blackmail by those who were working to oust him from office unconstitutionally said he could not be the victim and the accused at the same time.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo again embarked on a snap tour of the various markets and locations across Anambra state to monitor compliance with his directive that nobody should sit at home.

The Governor also made commitments to intensify the provision of security every monday.

Soludo visited Nkwo Igbo-ukwu, Afọr Nnobi, parts of Nnewi, Nkwọ Oraifite, Upper Iweka, Ochanja, among others, as people were seen moving about their lawful businesses amidst tight security by the law enforcement agencies.

While interacted with some traders, transporters, and residents during the visit, Soludo stated that everyone must work together to maintain both the public and the state’s economy, stressing the importance of adhering to the government directives.

He also encouraged the business owners to innovate and find creative ways to continue operating their businesses while maintaining a safe environment.

* The Chairman of Drug Dealers (Ogbo- ogwu) Bridge Head Market, Onitsha South LGA, Mr Chukwuleta Ndubuisi has commended the 21 newly elected chairmen and all the councillors in the just concluded local government election in the state.

Ndubuisi also charged them to partner with the state government in ensuring that the governor’s aim to make the state a liveable homeland comes to realization.

He expressed optimism on Governor Soludo’s leadership qualities, and as an economist, he manages the states finances without borrowing kobo, noting that it is his leadership qualities that makes Ndi Anambra to bestow their trust in him.

He stressed on the need for the chairmen and their councillors to always make sure that the gutters in their respective communities are always desilted for free flow or they can task the members of the community to do such with supervision.

* One hundred visually impaired persons have received world-class white canes with chips to assist them in moving around with little or no help, courtesy of the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, ANSAA, in partnership with other groups.

The beneficiaries received the assistive tool at the second edition of ANSAA’s “White Cane Campaign” held at All Saints Cathedral Onitsha with the theme, “One blind, one cane: a journey of resilience”.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of ANSAA, Mr Odili Ujuboñu, represented by the General Manager of the agency, Mr Chijioke Agbanyim, explained that the second edition of the campaign was in fulfilment of the promise made when the leadership of NAB, last year, requested for out-of-home advert spaces for white cane sensitization.
