* The Anambra State Government has address a recent incident involving Mr. Ossy Onuko, MD/ Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA), and a driver affiliated with GUO Transport. ANN reports that the incident, captured in a trending video, occurred on a roadway in Awka. In a release from Mr. Christian Aburime the Press Secretary to Anambra State Governor, stated that It is imperative to provide an accurate account of the events in question.
* The Government of Anambra State has inaugurated the 2024 Budget Committee members. Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Conference hall, the Commissioner, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake said that the essence of forming the Committee is to inform the people where and how their money would be utilized in the delivery of the dividends of democracy in the coming year. She said that the 2024 budget will shift from Analog to Automated Budgeting and Warranting system.
* Following the recent declaration of free education policy by the Anambra State government, students population in public schools in the state has increased tremendously.
Speaking on the situation during a monitoring visit to some schools in Onitsha zone, the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, Prof Nkechi Ikediugwu charged principals to admit every student that came for admission in their schools.
* The Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described the Minister of Education, Prof.Tahir Mamman, as a renowned educationist who has enough experience to step up the standard of education in Nigeria. * Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commiserated with Sir Cyril popularly known as Bobisco and family, over the unfortunate demise of their thirty four year old son, the late Chief Chukwunonso Okoye. The Governor who attended the mass which was held at All Saints Catholic Church Adazi Ani, in company of his wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, described the loss as huge for the state, Anaocha and Adazi-Ani community.
* The Executive Director in charge of Operations in the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) Dr. Christian Madubuko has debunked in totality the allegations being peddled by one Osita Obi that the Revenue House has been submerged with supremacy tussle. ANN recalled that the said Osita Obi had claimed in some sections of the media that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo made a fatal mistake by creating Executive Directors in the State Board of Internal Revenue that are not answerable to the Chairman.
* Thomas Chidoka Center For Human Development, Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State recently became a behive of activities as people from different communities of Anambra Central senatorial zone gathered for environmental situational hazards awareness training. The training handled by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) was powered by Hon Obinna Chidoka, the former representative of Idemili North and South LGAs in the green chamber of the National Assembly.
* Some motorists and residents along the Onitsha-Owerri road and Onitsha-Enugu Expressway have expressed concerns over the rising cases of kidnappings and robberies on both corridors. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, advised residents and motorists to always report such incidents to the Divisional Police Officer in their area, noting that he had no such information.
* The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in its Business School, started the execution of the phase of a £100,000 Grant it received from Royal Academy Of Engineering, United Kingdom to research in the area of electrical engineering.
The project, titled, “Catalyzing the Employability and Entrepreneurial Impact of Nigerian Graduate Engineers in the Electricity Industry as a Strategic Way to Improve Access to Electricity in Nigeria”, was awarded by Higher Education Partnerships in sub-saharan Africa (HEP SSA) 22/24 Programme.
