* The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Anambra North chapter, has installed the President General of Umueri General Assembly, Chief John Metchie as her patron as well as given him an award in recognition for being a security specialist and for contributions to community development. The event which attracted members, leadership of NYCN, political appointees including the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, took place at Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
* Friends, relatives, teachers and school mates all gathered at Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, to pay their last respect, shared fond memories with the deceased as the remains of three family members who died in the ill-fated building collapse in Nnewi last month were buried. The Late Mr. Chizoba Anaefuna, aged 48, and his two sons, Udoka, aged 13 and Uzochukwu, aged 9, lost their lives when a storey building with a pent house collapsed at Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA while they were carrying out electrical work in it on September 2.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has advocated joint celebration of new yam for ndị Igbo of Eastern region extraction. The Governor made the call at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, during the Maiden edition of Anambra Iri Ji Festival. Soludo said that celebrating the Iri Ji Festival in unison will show the world that the Igbo has a wonderful culture, pointing out that it was the first time every local government in the state came together to celebrate.
* The Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof Obiora Okonkwo said the Governor of Anambra state, Chukwuma Soludo has not translated his promises during the electioneering into reality.
Speaking in an in interview recently, Okonkwo said that poverty and sadness have pervaded Anambra State owing to the performance of the state government so far. Assessing the state government’s performance, Prof. Okonkwo urged Governor Soludo to do more for the people.
* Anambra State government through its Agency, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has commenced the reconstruction of the 200m -long Kwata road. Speaking during the exercise, the Head of Development Control of the agency, Mr. Charles Ekwunife said that what the agency has done is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda of giving Ndi Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland.
* Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo joined members of Rotary International, District 9142 in a road walk to celebrate this year’s Polio Summit which is holding in Awka. The one kilometre walk, which began from Primary Health Centre, Awawbia down to Paul University gate, Awka, was used to raise awareness on existent dangers of poliomyelitis and why the sickness must be eradicated completely. Speaking shortly before the walk, the governor’s wife who administered ceremonial polio vaccine on children at the health centre, reminded mothers that polio is still a dangerous child killer disease, and urged them to be at the centre of the campaign to eliminate it completely by taking the vaccination seriously.Â
* Miss Cynthia Obikeze has emerged as the overall Best Graduate in Pharmacy for the 2021/2022 Graduate set of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU). Miss Obikeze emerged best in Pharmacology and Toxicology. In Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry. In Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology. In Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Management. * The immediate past lawmaker who represented Nnewi North constituency at the Anambra state 7th assembly Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor has described the treatment of GUO motors driver as dehumanising and condemable.
As a House of Assembly member for 4 years, i never abused power. I still had my haircut where I used to. I still walked to church anytime I was in the village. I still drove myself around town without fighting anyone.
* The deiver of GUO transport (Mr. Obum) has finally spoken on what transpired between him and Mr. Ossy Onuko, MD/ Chief Executive Officer of the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA). Narrating the incidence from his hospital bed, the GUO driver said “I was coming from lagos heading to Enugu, getting to Ukpor, i saw a hilux in front of me and while i was trying to over-take, i was blocked. “After we passed the the Ukpor police station, i over take the hilux and while we approched Amawbia, the driver of the hilux insulted me and i insult him back. “Getting to Awka, i was double-crossed and his boys started beating me with machete”. The driver said.
