* The member representing the Idemili North and South federal constituency, Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo, has taken action to bring hope to Nigerians and his constituents affected by the ailing economy and the increase in hunger due to decreased agricultural productivity, which is triggered by low capital investment and insufficient funding for agricultural production.
Hon. Okonkwo, deeply concerned about the welfare of his constituents and Nigerians, moved a motion on “Repositioning Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) and De-Risking of Agribusiness in Nigeria.”
Hon. Okonkwo’s motion calls for a reversal of the trend and addresses the challenge of underfunding of agricultural value chains by providing NIRSAL with an additional $3 billion for lending to agricultural value chain actors in Nigeria.

Wednesday held a valedictory session in honour of former Deputy Speaker late Rt. Hon. Harford Ikechukwu Oseke.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his tribute described late Oseke as a seasoned legislator who committed and dedicated his life to public service and tireless worked to improve his community, constituency and the state.
Anambra Assembly Deputy Speaker and member representing Awka South two constituency, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye in his tribute said Oseke was not just a leader but a man of wisdom and humility. He encouraged the immediate family to uphold the legacies of their late father.
The Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme and Hon. Golden Iloh (Ihiala two), in their tributes, stated that posterity will always remember Oseke. They urged the immediate family to be courageous and put their trust in God.
* Youths of Awka Kingdom in Anambra State have been urged to embrace education and make the best of it for a better future.
Awka Na Aso Enwe Foundation made the call during the maiden Awka quiz competition prize giving and award ceremony 2024 held at St John Of God Secondary School, Awka.
Guest speaker at the event, Prof Frank-Collins Okafor while charging secondary school students of Awka extraction who gathered for the event said that Awka was one of the earliest towns to embrace education, even before the advent of colonialism.
* Anambra State Chief Protocol Officer and Deputy Chief of Staff Chief Chinedu Nwoye has advised opposition elements in the state to quit playing politics with human lives instead they should join forces with the present administration to secure the lives and property of Ndi-Anambra.
Nwoye who gave the admonition maintained that rather than vilify the governor; purporting that the state has failed under him following the catastrophic incident at Nibo community in Awka-South LGA which claimed some lives, he said Governor Chukwuma Soludo has invested so much and still investing a lot in the safety and security of Anambra citizens.
He said that the governor is saddened with the development and has equally vowed that the perpetrators of the Nibo killings won’t go scot-free as they must meet their waterloo.
* The Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state, led by Amb. Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, has appointed an Awka indigene, Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike as the new Substantive Registrar .
Nwokike, a lawyer, becomes the first Awka indigene to hold such position since the inception of the institution.
A press release signed by the Chairman of governing council of the university, Amb Greg Mbadiwe announced the appointment.
The letter from the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, was dated October 23,2024, while the appointment is a five year tenure.
* The Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, has visited the erosion ravaged sites at Oguezue- Umusiome-Nkpor in the council area to ascertain the level of damages the erosion has done to them and proffer immediate solution to contain the erosion.
Hon. Nkwoka who was accompanied to the erosion sites by deputy mayor, Lady Phina Onwuachu, and stakeholders in the council area stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to rural development, youth empowerment and people’s wellbeing.
He told the people of Oguezue, Umusione and Nkpor communities that the government will not abandon them and reassured them that there will be a remarkable difference.
* The Operation Clean Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) has resumed duties at Upper Iweka in Onitsha and its environs after a short break.
Men of the OCHA Brigade have been seen working hard to recover Upper Iweka and its environs once again from incessant open defecation, indiscriminate urinating in unauthorized places and other aspects of environmental pollution.
Their absence from duty at Upper Iweka few weeks ago turned the area to a dumping ground and defecation arena of human waste products.
* Some group of men, suspected to be law enforcement agents have allegedly brutalized and robbed some travellers of some substantial amount of money in Anambra State.
The incident happened at Upper Iweka in Onitsha where the suspected law enforcement agents allegedly accosted and apprehended the travellers, in the guise of enforcing law and order.
Recounting his ordeal in a video that has gone viral on social media, one of the victims, Mr. Chidi Eleaka, an indigene of Mbaise in Imo State, said the people, who wore a uniform with an inscription “Environmental Agent” robbed him of the sum of N50,000 he budgeted for his transportation, and also beat him up.
According to him, he and his Yoruba friend were travelling to Lagos and were at Onitsha to board a bus at Lagos Park after crossing from the opposite side of the road, only for a group of men to confront them, held them, and started claiming that they committed offense by crossing through the Express instead of through the pedestrian bridge.
* The Anambra West Local Government Area Mayor, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor says that the council has opened two holding centres for the flood Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) in the area to relocate.
Nnazor who said that he has personally toured the whole local government and observed that the area has been submerged, said that one of the holding centres is at Ajayi Crowther Onitsha while the second camp is located at Umueri, after Omambala Bridge in Anambra East Local Government Area.
He assured that the government will do everything humanly possible to alleviate the suffering of the flood affected people and appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his numerous support so far.
The Anambra West Mayor further revealed that boats and vehicles have been provided for the evacuation of the displaced persons, appealing to everybody to relocate to the holding centres for their safety as the government has made provisions for their overall welfare.
* The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council is set to hold her 2024 Press Week and Man of the Year 2024 Awards.
The event will hold on Thursday 7th November 2025 from 10am at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, NUJ Secretariat Complex, Awka.
The 2024 Press Week event has its theme as, “The Media and the Trajectory for Anambra State’s Future in a dwindling economy.’
The event will be chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Paul University Awka, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Keynote Speaker is Dr. Monday Ashibogwu.
