* The executive and traders at Electrical Dealers International Market, Obosi have called on the Anambra State government and relevant agencies to take immediate action against the erection of illegal structure in the market.
Narrating the situation, the pioneer Chairman of the market, Chief Innocent Muojekwu, and the present chairman of the market, Comrade Johnbosco Onukwo said a trader in the market by name Mr. Micheal Aniekwena, popularly known as “Anagbangbo” on Sunday 20th October 2024, without approval began erecting a plaza on an access road that links the market to the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.
They said the act by Mr. Aniekwena halted business activities and triggered the traders who almost went into protest but for the intervention of the market Chairman, delegates from Idemili North Council Area and men of the Nigerian Police Force from Obosi and Zone 13 Ukpo.
According to the duo, Mr. Aniekwena tried erecting the same building last year, but it was demolished by the Anambra state government, who also ordered him to stop work on the site.
* The second edition of Anambra Traders Sports Competition has Kicked has off Friday with an explosive match between Albert Anene of Odera Market Awka and Chibuzo Nwankwo of Eke-Oyibo market Amawbia in the Tennis event.
Anene of Odera Market won the encounter with 6-2: 2-2 scratch to earn his first victory in the competition in the game played held at the Awka City Sports Club Centre.
Odera Market earned another victory in Table Tennis on Day-One through Uchenna Omeifekwem who defeated Ndubuisi Anierobi of Eke-Oyibo 11-2 and 11-2 in a game of best of two.
* The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has conducted a significant demolition exercise targeting illegal structures and makeshift shops obstructing free flow of traffic in key areas of Awka, Anambra State.
ACTDA’s Deputy Commander of Enforcement, Mr. Ukachukwu Okonkwo who led the exercise, while addressing Journalists disclosed that the first phase of the demolition took place at Nnamdi Azikiwe Avenue by Igwebuike axis, near the old Nipost structure.
He added that once cleared, the full size of the road was revealed, allowing for easier movement of vehicles.
Speaking further, Mr. Okonkwo said the second phase of the exercise was carried out along Abakaliki Street, Club Road, where illegal shops were constructed under high-tension power lines.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that the late former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Prof. Humphrey Nwosu offered his best to ensure the growth and development of Nigeria’s democracy.
In his condolence message to the family of the late Nwosu on behalf of the state legislature, signed by Mr. Emma Madu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Udeze enjoined politicians to always reflect on the political reforms established by the late Prof. Nwosu in order to move the country forward.
The Speaker who extolled the late Prof. Nwosu’s innovative Option A4 voting and Open Ballot system, reiterated his call on the federal government to honour the late Prof. Nwosu by naming an important federal institution after him.
He commended the late Prof.Nwosu for initiating payment of salary to traditional rulers when he was a member of the State Executive Council during the tenure of Governor Samson Emeka Omeruah in old Anambra State.
* Anambra State Police command has reacted to the video of the unfortunate incident that happened at Ifite Awka on Thursday 24th October that recorded the murder of five persons, and three others seriously injure, wishes to state that it is not targeted at any ethnic or religious group.

Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a release stated that preliminary information reveals that the armed men started shooting sporadically in an attempt to escape when Police were alerted of their evil plan in the area.
“The Command not wanting to join issues with anyone or group remains committed to the ongoing operational patrols, improved security dominance and surveillance targeted to enhance safety and nip to the bud of such or any related incident in the State.
“While we commiserate with the families and friends of the victims, assure that unlike other incidents recorded in the past and some of the miscreants involved were arrested and justice served, will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has conveyed his warm congratulations to Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu on her recent nomination as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his congratulatory remark signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, Soludo extolled Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as a distinguished daughter of Ndigbo and a Board Of Trustee (BOT) member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in public service.
The Governor equally commended President Tinubu for his pan-Nigerian, inclusive leadership in nominating Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu for a ministerial position.
Soludo wished Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu every success in her new position and looks forward to seeing her make impactful contributions at the federal level.
* Anambra State Executive Council has awarded a contract for the renovation of Urban Secondary School Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area, at the sum of one hundred and twenty-seven million, nine hundred and fifty-four thousand, one hundred and seventy-seven Naira forty-three kobo.
The contract was awarded to WILLEZ Construction Company, with a completion period of five months.
Also awarded is the construction of the iconic Light of the Nation Tower and water fountain, at the sum of six hundred and four million, two hundred and eight thousand, two hundred and nineteen Naira forty-five kobo to IMES Construction Company, with the completion period of four months.
The Council also approved the contract for the construction of the in-house doctors’ residential quarters at the Okpoko General Hospital to Crystal Dove Construction Company Limited, at the sum of forty-three million, two hundred and ninety-five thousand, two hundred and ninety Naira and it is expected to be completed within three months.
The renovation of the Rehabilitation Centre Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area, was also awarded at the sum of seventy-six million, seven hundred and eighteen thousand and ninety Naira, ninety-eight kobo. to Resca Services Limited with the completion period of three months.
* A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Anambra State, Pharm Chinedu Ikeagwuonwu has expressed his displeasure with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for stating that granting full autonomy to Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) could lead to “humongous chaos and hinder sustainable development.”
Responding to this development, through a statement, Ikeagwuonwu expressed his disappointment and utter dismay at the actions of Governor Soludo.
He stated that the Federal Government’s effort to grant LGAs full autonomy, which culminated in the Supreme Court’s pronouncement to that effect, was part of a concerted effort to institute policies, programs, and reforms that would address the challenges that came with the removal of fuel subsidies.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed profound sadness and deep sense of loss on the passing of a most illustrious Nigerian patriot and former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Professor Humphrey Nwosu, in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 83 in the United States after a brief illness.
In his condolence message signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor, Soludo lamented that Nigeria has lost a true umpire of electoral integrity in Prof. Nwosu, describing him as a distinguished son of Anambra State from Ajali community in Orumba North Local Government Area who brought immense pride to the State through his exemplary service to our nation.
Nwosu’s tenure as NEC Chairman from 1989 to 1993 marked a watershed moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, particularly through his innovative contributions to our electoral process.
The Governor particularly recalled that Prof. Nwosu’s legacy has been eternally etched in Nigerian history as the architect of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, widely acknowledged as the freest and fairest election in our nation’s history.
