* The Anambra State Government through the State Ministry of Health has strengthened partnership with the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN) Anambra Chapter and vowed to end quackery in the profession.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike commended the leadership of the association led by Prof. SN Nwosu for their commitment in rendering eye care services to the public.
He said this during a courtesy visit with the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Dr. Obidike informed them that the goal of Gov. Charles Soludo administration is such that no one in Anambra should needlessly go blind that’s why he established the first ever state Eye Care Centre, Nise.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has joined ndi Anambra and Nigerians across the nation to celebrate the country’s 64th Independence Day anniversary.
The event was marked by parades and march pasts at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. As part of the activities to mark the day, Soludo inspected the guard of honour
In his speech, the Governor commended the efforts of the founding fathers who fought for the independence of the country 64 years ago and urged the citizens to emulate their patriotism and love for the country to fulfill their dreams.
Soludo also used the occasion to address issues affecting the development of the state and urged the citizens to continue to support the government in its quest for sustainable development.
* * Agulu Peoples Union (APU) Vocational Academy Limited has solicited the collaboration of Ministry of Education, Anambra State on skills acquisition of youths in the state.
Director of the Academy, Dr Duezeh Emmanuel dropped the hint during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in her office.
Duezeh who was accompanied on the visit by footwear instructor, Erondu Kingsley said the Academy, established last year has been training youths on no fewer than ten areas of vocational skills.
* Senator Uche Ekwunife has congratulated Nigerians on the nation’s 64th Independence Anniversary, calling for unity and collective action to build a safer and more prosperous nation.
In a statement, Ekwunife commended the resilience of Nigeria’s democracy and the unwavering dedication of citizens, particularly civil servants, security personnel, and youths.
She praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing economic recovery, infrastructure development, and enhanced national pride.
* The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has gifted a brand-new car to one of his constituents and one hundred and fifty ten-kilogram bags of rice to indigent people from the seven communities that make up Awka South II constituency.
As part of activities marking his birthday celebration at his residence in Amawbia, Awka South council area, Rt. Hon. Okoye
presented cash gifts and the bags of rice to the beneficiaries shortly after cutting of the birthday cake.
The Deputy Speaker who was flanked by his wife, Mrs Chiugo Okoye, said that the best way to be celebrated is to be celebrated by the needy and one’s constituents.
The former National Chairman of the All-Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Oye, while handing over the car key to Dr. Ngozi Ekwunife, recalled how dedicated she has been the development of Awka South two Constituency, asking others to remain committed to APGA as a political party.
* The Zonal Headquarters of Zone 13 Ukpo, Anambra State witnessed a momentous occasion as newly promoted officers of the Nigeria Police Force were decorated in a ceremony that highlighted their meritorious service and dedication.
The event, chaired by Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Godwin N. Aghaulor, was filled with a sense of accomplishment and pride as officers were elevated to new substantive ranks.
During the ceremony, officers serving at the Zonal Headquarters were promoted to the ranks of Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) and Superintendents of Police (SP). Among the newly promoted were CSP Okafor Ignatius, who moved from SP to CSP, CSP Ngozi Anene, and SP Eguaoba Sunday, who was promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police to SP.
The AIG warmly congratulated the officers on their well-deserved promotions, acknowledging their hard work and dedication over the years.
* Police-led Security Force while on patrol within Aguata LGA got information of suspected armed men sighted in a black-coloured Pardo Jeep along Igbo Ukwu/ Ezinifite Uga axis.
According to a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the Operatives on an offensive approach to the scene engaged the armed men in a gun battle and demobilize one of the miscreants while others escaped.
The security forces recover two AK 47 rifles, one pump action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, fifteen live cartridges, one black Pardo Jeep with two different plate numbers, two Police body armored vests, three face caps, one black handbag and different types of criminal charms.

Chief Humphrey Anuna says traders’ community is fully in support of the second term bid of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Anuna who spoke to journalists at the weekend dismissed the campaign against him as handiwork of detractors who had been sacked from living off illegal revenue from traders.
He said his leadership had been able to stop all channels of revenue leakages through which the so-called ‘concerned citizens’ shortchanged the government and ensured that every money accruable to the Anambra government got to it.
The ASMATA boss said he had been able to raise revenue from the market from paltry N400 million to a whopping N4.2 billion per annum assuring that his target was to take it to N10 billion in a near future.
* Anambra governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has been voted the Most Supportive Governor’s Wife in South East Nigeria.
Mrs Soludo clinched the award after getting the highest number of votes cast in an open digital ballot competition that was carried out by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council.
The competition was opened for governors’ wives in the five south eastern states, with voters able to state, through comments, their preferred candidates based on proofs and verifiable antecedents.
The Anambra governor’s wife, who won the survey by a landside, was voted for her impact on healthy living, social support, grassroots touch, and agriculture.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor has urged Nigerians not to lose hope of achieving a better and stronger Nigeria despite the current economic hardships.
Dr Mefor, who spoke to journalists at the special interdenominational church service, held at the Cathedral Church of St Faith, Awka, to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, stressed the need for all Nigerians to be committed to salvaging the country.
The Commissioner further opined that protection of lives and property and prioritizing the welfare and happiness of Nigerians are very essential to make Nigeria a better country.
He observed that the present Nigerian Government has been trying to reset the country economically and otherwise, although many of its policies are not sitting well with Nigerians and called on the Federal Government to review some of the policies or make some interventions that will make the policies more tolerable.
