* The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for renaming Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri after the acclaimed father of African literature, Prof. Chinua Achebe. In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi, who described the move by Governor Soludo as the most delightful and welcome development, stated that Achebe’s towering stature as a global literary pioneer and icon was deserving of such recognition.

*Anambra State contingent to the 7th edition of the National Youth Games were placed eighth on the final medals’ table with seven gold, six silver and nine bronze medals while Delta scooped fifty-one gold, thirty-four silver and thirty-one bronze medals to win the seventh National Youth Games back-to-back. In rounding off the ten-day sports programme, Lucy Chiamaka Nwankwo of Team Anambra won the one hundred metres race final, finishing in a time of twelve point two-eight seconds for the coveted gold medal as the fastest under fifteen girls at the games.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on the Nigerian Legion to join hands in the fight against insecurity in the country. Soludo represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi made the call at the Nigerian Legion, Anambra State Council 2023 Celebration Day held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka.

* Knights of St. John International 434 and Laux 363, St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka has celebrated its 40th anniversary. The event which kicked off with a holy mass attracted members of the group, political gladiators, the clergy, the academia, among others. Speaking at the holy mass, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor who spoke through his secretary, Very Rev Fr Evaristus Ifeanacho said that the event coincided with the feast of St. Jerome who is one of the Doctors of the church and described knights as soldiers of Christ, who must defend the church of God and her teachings at all times, and as well teach people the way of God.

* The harmonious echoes of Gentle Voice Chorale filled the air as they celebrated their journey of fifteen years with a breathtaking Festival of Hymns concert. Gentle Voice Chorale is s non-denominational group of gifted in the art of music and was formed in 2008, by a music director, Mr. Chukwuebuka Okoli. This milestone event held in Awka brought together music enthusiasts, supporters and government functionaries. The concert, an exquisite blend of vocal mastery and spiritual resonance, trilled the audience’s hearts and souls. 

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr Gerald Ozoh, has called for all hands to be on deck in promoting good governance, fostering inclusive economic development and protecting the council area, Anambra State and Nigeria from bad elements bent on bringing them on their knees. Speaking when he hosted pupils and students from primary and secondary schools in the council area in commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary, Mr Ozoh noted that good governance and economic development can not be sustained without peaceful and secured environment as the  enablers. 

* Young Writers in Anambra State, under the umbrella of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Anambra State Chapter, have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his decision to immortalize the late Nigerian literary icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe. The commendation is coming after the Governor made the historic announcement of immortalizing Achebe, during the Independence Day celebrations on October 1, 2023.

* Anambra Speaker, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze says God is capable of restoring the image, unity, peace and economy of the country. In his independence message to Nigerians, Rt Hon. Udeze expressed satisfaction with the contributions of the foremost political leaders and those who fought for Nigeria’s independence towards the corporate existence of the country, describing them as selfless and visionary leaders.

* The President-General Umueri General Assembly Anambra-East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Amb. Chief Dr. John Chukwudi Metchie has congratulated Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for renaming Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri after the late renowned literary giant Professor Chinua Achebe. Metchie in an interview said that the immortalization of Chinua Achebe by Governor Soludo was a worthwhile decision, said legends of Anambra origin who have left indelible footprints in the sands of time, should not be forgotten instead they should be remembered for their immense contributions to human development.
