* Anambra State government says it is looking for land to build a leisure park in Okpoko, Ogbaru LGA
The Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji while speaking in an event recently in Awka, extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s impressive performance in the state’s tourism sector, eulogized him for turning Okpoko into a new haven where people can live, work and relax.
Onyenji further noted that the Soludo administration has cleaned up Agulu lake and a design to construct a beach along the axis has also been completed.
The Commissioner who maintained that his ministry has packaged numerous mouthwatering cultural, entertainment and leisure activities for Ndi Anambra in this year’s Christmas season, called on the citizenry to keep supporting the current administration in the State.
* The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Anambra State, led by its chairman, recently paid a courtesy visit to the frontline governorship aspirant of the Labour Party, Chief George Moghalu.
The group chairman, Chief Uche Ugwoji, visited Moghalu at his Uruagu-Nnewi home over the weekend. All 18 registered political parties that make up IPAC were fully represented at the meeting.
Moghalu, welcomed them to his home and commended their cohesion and objective disposition toward his aspiration. He took the opportunity to formally announce his intention to run for the 2025 governorship election and appealed for their individual and collective support.
* The Newly Elected National Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Rt. Hon. Famuyibo Oluwasegun, has announce the appointment of Hon. Miss. Ngozi Okafor from Anambra State as the Clerk of the fourth Assembly.
This appointment demonstrates the Assembly commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive leadership. Hon. Ngozi Okafor will bring her wealth of experience and expertise to the role, ensuring the efficient administration of the Assembly affairs.
As Clerk, Hon. Ngozi will play a pivotal role in facilitating the legislative process and providing strategic guidance.

* The traditional ruler of Obosi in Idemili North LGA, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), said that Obosi is one of the safest towns in Anambra state, now.
Igwe Iweka made the comment during his celebration of the 2024 Iwaji/Obiora festival, which took place at the Obosi township stadium.
He said that the existence of peace in Obosi and the non-occurrence of violent acts in the town are dependent on the Obosi people’s continued payment of their security levies.
Igwe Iweka poured encomiums on the Obosi Development Union (ODU) leadership and the Obosi Security Outfit for their concerted and ceaseless efforts aimed at ridding Obosi of all manner of criminal deeds and anti-social behaviour.
* The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, has called on newly elected local government chairpersons and councillors to prioritize inclusivity and representation for all community members, particularly those with disabilities.
In a statement signed by State Chairman Comr. Ugochukwu Ernest Okeke, JONAPWD urged council leaders to appoint persons with disabilities as Special Assistants on disability matters.
Okeke emphasized that the unique experiences and insights of these individuals would substantially enrich the policymaking process, ensuring that the needs of people with disabilities are fully acknowledged and addressed within local governance.
* The lawmaker representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency Prof. Lilian Orogbu, alongside the people of Awka North and South, has voiced strong support for the inclusion of more women in the legislature.
This call was made during a town hall meeting organized by United Nations Women (UNW) in collaboration with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) at Emeus House in Awka.
Orogbu emphasized the need for increased female participation in the legislative arm, noting the current underrepresentation of women. She also presented her scorecard to the stakeholders of Awka North and South Federal Constituency, assuring them that their votes were not in vain. The lawmaker highlighted her achievements and ongoing projects in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
* Hon. Shedrack Uwamaka Okafor 2024 Football Tournament has officially kicked off at the St. Pio Community Stadium in Onitsha.
The inaugural match which was kicked off by the sponsor, Hon. Shedrack Uwamaka Okafor, featured a competitive showdown between the St. Pio Community and the Mary De Queen Community.
This tournament aims to harness the power of football as a unifying force in the community and is being organized by the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) under the Onitsha Archdiocese and St. Stephen Parish, Lumen Kristi Close, Onitsha.
* The youths of Ojoto community in Idemili South Council Area led by Comrade Samuel Mbanefo has reaffirmed their unalloyed support to Idemili South Council Mayor, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, and APGA in general.
They made the statement during Council Mayor inspection of ongoing 1.2km of road in St. Barnabas-Nnewi-Oba old road, stating that Hon. Obi did marvellously well as the former Caretaker Chairman.
Welcoming Council Boss with gift, the leader of the youths, Comrade Samuel Mbanefo said, Ojoto is now APGA and they are solidly behind Hon. Obi to assist her in the effort to take the council area to the next level of development.
* The National Coordinator of Soludo Support Group (SSG) Hon. Chinedu Nwoye has entreated Awka residents to collaborate with the state government and law enforcement agencies to provide lasting solution to the sudden security challenge in the state capital.
Hon. Nwoye made the statement over the weekend while reacting to the incident that happened at Amansea road by Ifite-Awka in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He condemned the ugly incident and frown at the level of decadence in moral values and regards for the sacredness of human lives.
* Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Prince Kenneth Okwuchukwu Emeakayi as special adviser on community security.
Soludo swore in the new appointee, Emeakayi on Tuesday at the executive chambers of the Anambra State government house in Awka.
Emeakhayi, a former chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State had until recently held the position of president general of Okija community in Ihiala Local Government Area, and was known to have coordinated security in the area.
Despite Ihiala being a hotbed of insecurity and known to have camps by secessionist elements, Okija has been very peaceful, and this has been attributed to Emeakhayi’s hardwork.
