# Ahead of the November eight Anambra gubernatorial election, Oba Community in Idemili South LGA says their support is for Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, or nobody.
The community organized a rally at Central School, Abaorji village, Oba in support of the APGA candidate, with a cheque of fifty million naira.
While appreciating the community for organising the event, Governor Soludo emphasized that his administration is in support of culture and tradition which always stand for the truth, and lauded Oba youths for leading the way to sanitize their community in support of hard work and not wealth by magical means.
The Governor, who responded to the plea by the Oba youths for the release of “Akwa Ọkụkọ Tiwara akị”, was emphatic that he cannot interfere in the matter already in court, assuring that his government is ready to partner Oba for a liveable neighborhood.
# Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) in a meeting has presented a Validation of Findings on a Baseline Study on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and Women’s Political Aspiration in Elective Positions.
In her address, Executive Director SIDEC, Mrs. Ugochi Ehiahuruike while Speaking at an event held in Awka on Friday, October 3rd 2025, said the initiative is implemented in partnership with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room supported by UK-FCDO.
Ehiahuruike maintained that the project is aim to promote inclusive participation of Women, Youths and Persons with Disabilities (PWD), in governance and combat disinformation.
# Following security information regarding the on-going New Yam Celebration across various communities in Anambra State, the Police Command has strongly warned individuals and groups against any acts capable of breaching the peace.
The Police warned against any attempt to organize parallel events or to undermine or disrespect community/government-recognized leadership during the festivities will not be tolerated as offenders will be made to face the full weight of the Law.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has directed all Divisional Police Officers, tactical teams, and Area Commanders to intensify visibility policing, patrols, and intelligence gathering within their areas of responsibility. These measures are aimed at ensuring maximum security, Law, and Order before, during, and after the celebration.

# JONAPWD Chairman, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke says there’s urgent need to deepen democracy by ensuring that no one is left behind in the political process.
Okeke while speaking at an event organized by SIDEC in Awka on Friday, maintained that for too long, the voices of women and persons with disabilities have been underrepresented in leadership and decision-making spaces, despite their proven abilities, resilience, and contributions to nation-building.
“The baseline study is more than just a document of research, it will also serve as a mirror reflecting both the challenges and what can be done. It will also provides evidence to guide advocacy, to inform inclusive policies, and to empower more women and persons with disabilities to step forward into leadership without further being marginalized or excluded.
“As a disability group leader in the state, I see this validation exercise as a call to collective action. Together, let us dismantle structural, attitudinal, Institutional, and communication barriers.it will also amplify inclusive practices, and create a political environment where competence not gender, disability, or circumstances determines who leads.
# A serious road traffic crash occurred near Igbariam Junction on the Awka-Onitsha road.
The incident involved two vehicles: a wine-colored Mack tipper truck and a red HOWO tanker with the registration number KWR133YQ.
In a press release by SRC. Margaret Onabe, Sector Public Education Officer,
four individuals were involved in the crash, with one male adult sustaining bruises and being transported to Chira Hospital in Awkzu for medical attention. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
“The primary cause of the crash has been attributed to the driver of the Mack tipper vehicle losing control”
The FRSC Anambra State Command urges motorists to drive cautiously and exhibit patience, particularly on highways. We also encourage witnesses to promptly report accidents to our command centers or through the FRSC toll-free number 122″. Onabe stated.
# In an effort to promote economic self-reliance, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, the Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, has sponsored a two-day empowerment program that equipped 100 youths and women in Awka with hands-on vocational training and business development insights.
Held at the CWO Cana House, the initiative focused on soap, detergent, and pomade production.
The program was thoughtfully designed to prepare participants with the skills and mindset needed to launch and sustain small-scale enterprises in today’s competitive economy.
The event combined theoretical sessions, covering business planning, branding, and financial literacy, with immersive practical workshops, where participants produced household essentials. Prof. Orogbu’s holistic approach ensured that attendees not only acquired marketable skills but also understood how to turn those skills into viable income streams. To accelerate their entrepreneurial journey, participants were provided with resource materials and financial support, enabling them to begin their ventures immediately after the training.
# Anambra State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has organized a stakeholders’ consultative forum towards the preparation of the 2026 budget.
Held in Awka, the event provided an avenue for inclusive deliberations on budget priorities, transparency and citizens’ participation in governance.
In her keynote address, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders at the early stages of the budget process to ensure people-centered planning and sustainable development in the state.
She noted that such forum is to foster accountability and allow for broader input that reflects the needs of the citizens.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Chinyere Nwabachili, said the consultative forum is designed to strengthen partnership between government, development partners, civil society and communities in shaping Anambra’s development agenda.
The Civil Society Organizations were also represented at the meeting, with Mr Chris Azor commending the state government for prioritizing inclusiveness and urging continuous collaboration to achieve developmental goals.
The forum was well attended by Traditional Rulers, development partners, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Sir Ejike Okechukwu, who reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting a transparent and accountable budget process.
# Corps Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander of the FRSC Anambra State, has expressed her wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured individual.
Reacting to the serious road traffic crash which occurred near Igbariam Junction on the Awka-Onitsha road on Friday, she emphasized the importance of drivers exercising caution and adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
“We urge all road users to remain vigilant and cooperate with our officers to ensure safety on our roads. We are committed to working tirelessly to reduce road traffic accidents and enhance public safety in Anambra State.”
The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje is currently managing traffic and awaiting the removal of the vehicles to facilitate the free movement of other vehicles. The tanker, which was loaded with diesel, is undergoing transloading into another tanker.
