* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has identified creativity and talent as the future economy.Governor Soludo in company of his wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, gave the disclosure while attending the 2023 Anambra Fashion Expo (AFE2023), themed; “Creativity Unleashed”, held at the International Convention Centre, Awka. While celebrating the show as an opportunity to project some of the best Anambra has to offer, Governor Soludo expressed optimism that next year’s programme would be better.

* The Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene has extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for renaming Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport after the late literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe. Chief Okeke-Ogene said the gesture is an honour to Ndigbo, Africa and entire black race.

* Paul University Awka has held its fourth convocation and lecture ceremony for her 383 graduands. ANN reports that Most Reverend Ndukuba was also installed as the Chancellor of Paul University. In his charge, Most Reverend Ndukuba who recounted the history of the University, pointed out that religion has always been the nursery of education and enlightenment and that the church gave birth to great universities of the world and now Paul University.

* Police-led Forward Operating Base (FOB) comprising military and paramilitary Services based in Aguata and supported by Police Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu on Friday, 6th October, 2023 in a well coordinated operation, stormed insurgents Camp at Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA. Three abducted persons including a Reverend Father were rescued unhurt. Nine vehicles and three Pump Action Guns  were recovered and three suspects were arrested.

* Barely a week after Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State moved from 4494th position to 1500th position in the latest world University rankings for 2024, the institution has recorded another international feat. Recall that the University also came 12th position in Nigeria in the rankings.vAn alumnus of the university, Lotachukwu Okoye came out on top in the United States of America. He was selected as United States Customs John F Kennedy International Airport employee of the year.

* The Anambra government has donated sports equipment to schools which produced champions at the Sports Festival held between May and June this year for their impressive performances. Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission Chief Patrick-Estate Onyedum on friday handed Volleyball Court, Olympic Table Tennis Board, Football, Volleyball and Basketball equipments to the deserving schools. ANN gathered that Washington Memorial Grammar School Onitsha which excelled in Volleyball had its dilapidated Volleyball Court expanded and renovated.

* The Anambra State Police Command has promised to wade into the allegation of land grabbing currently rocking Nimo Community in Njikoka Local Government Area of the State, as situation appears to be getting messier by the day. The State Deputy Police Commissioner in-charge of operations, Mr. Ibrahim Ezekiel, disclosed this while addressing about 800 Nimo women who stormed the State Police Command Headquarters Amawbia, in protest, seeking asylum.

* HRH Igwe (Pharm) Alex Uzo Onyido of Ogidi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area has emerged as the winner of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Anambra State Council 2023 Man of the Year. The NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Award, 2023 is awarded based on sterling track records and antecedents. The event is designed as one of the climax of the week-long 2023 NUJ Press Week ceremonies. 

* Elizabeth Nwadije and Cecilia Nwokoye, 95 and 93 years old, respectively, were among many elderly people who benefitted from the free medical outreach to commemorate the International Day of elderly persons in Anambra State.

The event was organised by Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation (ADF) in collaboration with the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) Anambra State Stakeholders Consultative Forum and Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN).

* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has advocated for unity and understanding among Christians of different denominations, with the aim of achieving a shared vision and mission. Governor Soludo made the call when he received in audience, the Apostolic Nuncio to the Czech Republic, Most Reverend Jude Thaddeus Okolo at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia. According to the Governor, as the world faces various challenges today, promoting ecumenism becomes more important than ever.

* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi says that the agency has registered over 220,000 people into the scheme. Dr. Onyemaechi made this known during the registration of new enrollees in Nnobi, Idemili South LGA.
