* The traditional ruler of Omasi Igwe Benjamin Okeji has expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for renaming the state international airport after the late Professor Chinua Achebe. Igwe Okeji in a press statement in Awka applauded the milestone as a worthy cause similar to his earlier pronouncement that the International Convention Centre be named after the former governor of the state Chief Willie Obiano.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, has charged professional bodies in Nigeria to prioritize the training and retraining of their members for professionalism. Ifeanya gave the charge when a delegation from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Awka branch, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat Awka.
* The Faculty of Agriculture Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka campus has taken quest to promote Agriculture to the next level through its maiden Exquisite banquet and exhibition.
Declaring the event open in Awka, the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof.Charles Esimone noted that any country that supports Agriculture can never go hungry. The vice chancellor regretted that Nigeria has neglected Agriculture and paying the consequences.
* Nteje Community in Oyi local government area has launched War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) as they inaugurated a committee that will champion Zero tolerance to drug trafficking in the community. The President General of the community, Dr Nnamdi Iloduba said that the target is to rescue the community from the activities of drug peddlers. Dr Iloduba said that the society is losing good number of youths to drugs abuse as many have abandoned schooling and their careers following their dependence on drug and said that the situation calls for a collective action to reclaim the youths and the community.
* Anglican Bishop Of Awka Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim said church of God was instituted to preach good news of God’s forgiveness, evangelize, win souls and bring people to repentance. The Archbishop, Province of the Niger stated this in a sermon at the Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit during his episcopal visit to the church. Archbishop Ibezim noted that expansion of churches in all the nooks and crannies of the society is to win souls that are perishing, reconcile men back to Christ and give the downtrodden hope of new life in Chris Jesus.
* The Ossomala community in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) has benefited from a one day free hernia surgery organised by the Management of General Hospital Ossomala. The Medical Doctor in charge of the Hospital, Dr. Obiora Agwunobi said that the free medical surgeries which involved children and adults was conceived as a response to increasing prevalence of congenital hernia and undescended testes congenital hydroceles mostly seen in male infants and children.
* Anambra state Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has kicked-off the Solution Community Shield Football Championship. The championship kicked off with a flag-off ceremony, drawing a large crowd of fans from the 21 local government areas of the state.
Speaking shortly before the kick-off, the Governor expressed optimism that the healthy competition will get the youths busy and help to foster inter-community unity and progress.
* An international non governmental and non-religious organization has trained 30 journalists from different religions, beliefs and media establishments across Nigeria. The three-day training offered participants opportunity to critically review codes of different religions, as well as relevant local and international laws that protect adherents of the religions and other beliefs.
* The Parish Priest St.Mary’s Catholic Church Awka Rev Fr Bernard Anaebena has urged Christians to obey all the rules of the church to inherit eternal life. In a homily he noted that obedience to the injunctions of the church should not be selective but complete.
The cleric gave an example of full participation in the Holy mass by joining in prayers and songs and avoiding being passive to prayers and activities of the mass.
* The Onitsha North Local Government Area Formation of the War Against Indiscipline Brigade (WAI BRIGADE) has been inaugurated by the Anambra State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Awka, Sir Joseph Uchendu with a call on the Federal Government to gazette the Organization to become full fledged pensionable Organization in the Country.
Performing the inauguration ceremony at the Corporate headquarters of the organization located inside the Onitsha Local North Government Secretariat, Onitsha, the NOA Director, Sir Uchendu also called on Anambra State Government and the Local Government authorities in the State to engage members of Brigade frequently and effectively in not only enforcement of discipline
