* The newly elected chairman of Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon ThankGod Anagor, has said his administration would continue to empower the youth, nurture their talents, and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in the evolving world.
Anagor said the government prioritizes youth development, thereby investing in projects that create opportunities for them to explore, experiment, and express themselves freely in the society.
The Chairman stated this while briefing Journalists at his residences in Mgbakwu, in Awka North Council Area.
* Anambra state is gearing up to protect over 1.1 million children through the 2024 integrated measles campaign with the goal of reducing the burden of the disease among young populations.
The State Health Educator at the Anambra state Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs Uju Onwuegbuzina revealed during a zonal meeting organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu.
According to Mrs Onwuegbuzina, 1,227,113 doses of the vaccine have been secured to vaccinate children in the 330 wards of the 21 council areas.
The measles campaign, she said, has been scheduled to run from October 12th to 18th 2024, and will be conducted in all designated health facilities and mobile posts in communities, churches, schools markets and anywhere children can be found.
* The Anglican Christian Men’s Fellowship, ACMF, Church of the Holy Spirit, Awka, has elected new leaders to pioneer the affairs of the Fellowship with Mazi Sam Ike elected as Chairman.
Others elected alongside Mazi Sam Ike were Barr Raphael Chukwuzubelu as Vice-Chairman; Lay/R. Kingsley Ogunta, Secretary; Engr. Oluebube Ezenwankwo as Assistant Secretary; and Mr. Izuchukwu Ude as Financial Secretary.
Others were, Sir Dr. Chinedu Ilokanuno as Treasurer; Mr. Emeka Ezeanata as Social Secretary; and Mr. Iyke Ogbuebu as Provost/PRO.
* The Director General, Anambra State Bureau For Public Procurement, Okey Ezeobi, has identified robust procurement system as the cardinal means through which the present administration is delivering dividends of democracy in the state.
Ezeobi said that improved public sector procurement system had enhanced good governance and practices to ensure probity, accountability and transparency.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the launch of “Solution Watch Newsletter” by APGA Youths at Hilton Leisure Hotels, Awka, Ezeobi said that the Bureau was committed to keeping up with its mandate which he described as critical and pivotal to the development of the state.
* Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Anambra State has floated another tertiary institution named Gozie Anyachebelu Polytechnic (GOZPOLY), with its permanent site at Oraukwu in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The Polytechnic founded by the Anglican Diocese on the Niger led by Right Reverend Dr. Owen Nwokolo has it’s take-off campus in Onitsha.
This is coming in less than one year, the Diocese on the Niger founded the University on the Niger, (Uniniger), at Umunya.
The Diocesan Bishop, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, broke the news of the new institution at the All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha during the collation and installation of archdeacons and canons of the diocese.
* Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Youth Wing has expressed satisfaction over the achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in Anambra State.
Acting National Youth leader, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu who disclosed this in a press conference said the submission followed 5-day project inspection tour in Anambra State with focus on the projects and programs of the administration from 2022 till date.
He listed the areas of achievements of the Governor to include security, education, healthcare, youth development among others.
* A major stakeholder in Alor community, Hon. Ifenna Okafor, has congratulated Idemili South Mayor, Mrs Amaka Obi, and the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi Anakuba on their Inauguration and swearing -in ceremony.
Hon. Okafor in his congratulatory message said, this milestone marks a significant achievement for the people of Idemili south local government area, and he is sure that the council area is eager to witness the transformative impact of their leadership.
He noted that Idemili South, being a key part of Anambra State has immense potential for growth and development and Hon. Obi will bring her wealth of experience, having previously served as the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South. Her victory is a testament to her dedication and commitment to the people.
* Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo, representing the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, has commenced the installation of solar-powered streetlights in Odume Obosi, Idemili North.
During his election campaign, Hon. Okonkwo pledged to bring light and security to the people of Idemili, focusing on boosting economic activity and enhancing public safety.
His “Light Up Idemili” initiative is designed to illuminate key areas where business and trade thrive, thereby extending operational hours for market traders. In addition, the project targets high-risk zones to deter criminal activities, ensuring safer communities for all.
Phase 1 of the “Light Up Idemili” project saw successful streetlight installations in three communities in Idemili South—Ojoto, Nnobi, and Awka-Etiti. Now, the project expands into Idemili North, beginning with Odume Obosi’s major markets and key locations. Plans are underway to extend this development to other communities in the region.
* A law to establish Anambra state Economic Planning board 2024 and to provide for the economic planning and development of the state as contain in section 73 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as ammended has been passed.
Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday at plenary passed the bill after the presentation and consideration of report of the joint House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, and the Committee on Economic Planning, SDG’s and International Organizations, presented by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu.
Hon. Okechukwu who is the member representing Anaocha two Constituency
before presenting the report, revealed that the joint Committee meet and delibrated on the bill and came up with some suggestions and recommendation, hoping that it will go a long way in strengthening the bill.
After some consideration and ammendment at the Committee of the whole, the bill was red for the third time and passed into law.
* The students of Community Secondary School, Ukpo, on behalf of the School recently paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Dunukofia LGA, Bar. Chijioke C. Ozumba to congratulate him on his new office.
The students also seized the opportunity to officially present to the Mayor, the Trophy won by the School at the 2024 Independence Day Celebration held on the 1st of October. .
