* At least three indigenes of Enugwu-Ukwu community were on Monday k!lled by persons suspected to be members of Nawfia community, over what was suspected to be a land dispute.

Both Enugwu-Ukwu and Nawfia communities are neighbours in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A source told newsmen that both communities have been having dispute over land, but on Monday, some unidentified indigenes of Nawfia lured some members of Enugwu-Ukwu community through phone call to the disputed land and attacked them, leading to the death of three persons, while many others were wounded and already hospitalized.

* In a bid to improve the safety and security of lives and property on campus, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, has made concerted efforts to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.

Prof. Arinze-Umobi reiterated this commitment during her visit to the university’s Safety Unit where she was received by the Chief Safety Officer, Mr. Ken Chukwurah and his team. She reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to enhancing security across the institution, emphasizing that safeguarding the welfare of the university community remains a top priority in her administration.

Among the key measures she highlighted are the reinforcement of security along the university’s perimeter, the lighting of walkways, and other strategic security measures. Prof. Arinze-Umobi stressed the importance of a proactive approach to security, particularly with regard to students.

She further encouraged students to remain vigilant, avoid walking alone at night, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Safety Unit.

* Stakeholders in Dunukofia LGA in Anambra have resolved to work to ensure the victory of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the 2025 governorship election in the state.

The stakeholders took the stand at the inauguration of local government and ward executive committees of ‘Dunukofia-4-Soludo Pilot’ a grassroots based support group in Ukpo, Dunukofia Council secretariat.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo, the Convener of ‘Dunukofia-4-Soludo Pilot’ said the group was set up for the purpose of securing a comprehensive victory for Soludo in the LGA.

* The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) chapter, has declared September 10, 2024, as Victimized Lecturers’ Day, in solidarity with colleagues unjustly persecuted in various Nigerian universities.

Speaking at a press conference held at the ASUU Secretariat, NAU, Awka on Tuesday, Comrade Kingsley Ubaoji, Chairperson of ASUU-NAU, expressed deep disappointment and dismay at the failure of university Visitors to address management crises and victimization of lecturers.

Ubaoji said the rally was to urged the Federal Government to stop intimidating, harassing and victimized their members across public varsities in the country.

* Anambra Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has order investigation into the murder of three persons at Isionye land, a boundary between Enugu ukwu and Nwafia.

The attack which happened on Monday 9th September 2024 left five others seriously injured.

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga,
Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, “preliminary information, reveals the victims were lured by some individuals through a phone call to the land in guise of a land transaction and attacked them with guns and matchet

* The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to a false and misleading news story circulating on social media and some online platforms, claiming that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo recently fired an aide who allegedly leaked a video of the governor briefly participating in the “gwo gwo” dance challenge.

According to a release signed by Mr.
Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor,

“We wish to categorically state that this report is completely untrue and unfounded. No aide has been fired by the governor over the viral dance video.

“The only individual being rumoured as fired was recently redeployed as part of a routine government reshuffle and not due to the leaked video.

* Suspected kidnappers have tragically killed a businessman known as Sunny Taxman after allegedly collecting a ransom of N10 million.

Sunny, who was from Alor Agu in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State but resided in Onitsha, Anambra State, was reportedly abducted by the k!dnappers who then demanded the ransom.

Although his family reportedly paid the N10 million ransom, the kidnappers still went ahead to k!ll him.

* The rumour mill has been churning with reports that former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, was allegedly arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Anambra. However, these claims have been swiftly debunked by Mr. Obi’s media adviser, Valentine Obienyem.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Mr. Obienyem categorically dismissed the reports as entirely false and baseless. He clarified that the rumour first surfaced on Saturday, but was promptly refuted. Despite this, the false narrative appears to have continued spreading.

Mr. Obienyem further disclosed that Mr. Obi was not even in Anambra State at the time of the alleged incident. “As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending to important engagements,” he said. “He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters.”

The statement also refuted the claim that Mr. Obi’s wife was arrested, describing it as a fabrication aimed at misleading the public and causing unnecessary panic among his supporters.

* The Anambra contingent to the 8th National Youth Games on Monday departed Awka for Asaba with a contingent of 173 team members.

The team which left the Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat Centre Camp comprised 124 athletes, and 49 officials.

Addressing the team before departure, Governor. Chukwuma Soludo encouraged the athletes to do be worthy ambassadors of the state and do their best to make Anambra proud at the festival,

Soludo, who was represented by Nonso Anozie, his principal secretary, said a handsome reward awaits them while urging them to surpass their performance at the previous edition of the festival.

* Anambra Police Command intercepted a publication where they used the candidate of a Political Party and Anambra State Commissioner of Police’s official portrait for news publications on the incident at Isionye land, that resulted in the murder of three persons and left some injured.

According to a release by SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, the Command Observe with great dismay what the publishers and the Candidate intend to achieve with such and states that the Commissioner of Police remains neutral and ready to listen to everyone and anyone as such heinous crime shall not be swept under the carpet and perpetrators must be arrested and be made to face the full weight of the law.

The CP notes while the Police are already working with some information obtained from the scene, urge members of the public to provide the police with credible and useful information that will lead to the apprehension of all persons involved in the barbaric act.

Mr Daniel Onyishi, Commander of the NDLEA in Anambra, paid a courtesy visit to the Anambra State House of Assembly. The visit was in line with the agency program to fight drug abuse in the state and other security issues. The meeting was a closed door section.
