# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has extended his condolences to the family of Miss Chinwe Igwe, the victim of a tragic incident at the Onitsha Market earlier this week.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Soludo met with representatives of Igwe’s family from Ikwo in Ebonyi State at the Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters.

During the meeting, the Governor assured the family that a thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing that any security personnel found to be at fault will face prosecution, adding that it is essential that operatives adhere to established protocols to prevent preventable tragedies because every life matters.

Furthermore, the Governor praised law enforcement agencies for their swift response to the situation, urging them to continue their efforts to maintain peace and order throughout the state.

In addition to addressing the family of the victim, Governor Soludo visited a private Hospital in Onitsha to offer his sympathies to one of the injured individuals, who is reportedly recovering well, extending same to two other injured victims who are hospitalized at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital in Nnewi.

# As schools resume, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB Chairman; Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, visits schools in Oyi and Onitsha North Council Areas.

In her remark, Dr. Nwadinobi, who said that the turnout of pupils were not impressive, emphasized that “resumption test” is part of academic grading, urging parents and guardians to release their children for school.

The ASUBEB Chairman, commended teachers for resuming promptly for the academic session.

Dr. Nwadinobi appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for building a secondary school at Akpaka to help those within the area access free secondary education, unlike what was obtainable, saying that everything has been put in place for a successful session.

# Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary, ordered for the desolve of the continous Caretaker Committee of Nkpor Butchers Association, immediately, calling for immediate election with fairness and justice.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, after the consideration of a report from the Committee on Public Petitions title “gross violation of the rules and regulations at Nkpor Butchers Association, Nkpor Market and constant conduct likely to cause breach of peace and order by the appointed caretaker Chairman, his exco and elder brother” gave the ruling after Hon. Nobel Igwe moved a motion for adoption of the report and was seconded by Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South).

The Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Obi Nweke in his submission, explained that after some findings, it was discovered that the rule of the Association states that only registered members are allowed to slaughter cows inside the market so as to cnable the Association to know who is legal, when a stolen cow is slaughtered, when a dead cow is being sold and by who.

# A Consultant with International Budget Partnership, (IBP), Folahan Johnson have
appeal to Small Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria (SWOFON) members in Anambra State to be intentional in their engagement with government as they strive for greater attention to their demands.

The consultant made the appeal during a 3-day meeting organized by SWOFON in Awka, Anambra State.

The meeting which focused on budgeting and development of Charter of Demands, was part of implementation of the Strengthening Public Accountability for Result and Knowledge, SPARK 2 project funded by IBP.

In his remark, Folahan urged SWOFON to strengthen advocacy, expand partnerships, and ensure that members actively engage policymakers to secure meaningful responses to their demands.

# Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has decorated 89 (Eighty-Nine) newly promoted Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in a colourful ceremony held at the Command Headquarters, Awka.

The event, which was attended by senior officers of the Command, family members, and well-wishers, marked a significant milestone in the careers of the officers.

In addition to their decoration, the officers were officially inducted into the Police Officers’ Mess, symbolizing their transition into the Officer Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.

The CP represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department Awka, DCP. Mantu Chong congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to see their elevation as both a reward for hard work and a call to greater responsibility.

# The Nimo Solution Re-election Football Tournament, sponsored by the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Council, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has come to a conclusion with Team Egbengwu emerging victorious over Team Ifiteani with a score of 3-1.

The grand finale, held at Assumption Catholic Church Field, Nimo, attracted
massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters and football fans.

In his remark, the Mayor, Hon. Ononiba said the tournament aimed to promote unity, youth engagement, and grassroots sportsmanship while rallying support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid. He maintained that the initiative is designed to keep the youths of Njikoka engaged with sporting activities and that the this tournament is a testament to his commitment to youth development and community building.

The winners of the tournament, Team Egbengwu, took home a cash prize of ₦400,000, while the runner-up, Team Ifiteani, received ₦300,000. The third-place team received ₦200,000, and the fourth-place team received ₦100,000.

# Association Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH)
Awka, Anambra has embarked on a seven day warning strike to press home their demands for a better working condition.

ARD-COOUTH stated this in a communique issued at the end of its emergency virtual meeting held on Sept. 10 titled “Notification for Commencement of Industrial Action”.

The Communique which was issued and signed by Dr Joy Okwumuo and Dr Chukwubuike Ifekudu, President and Secretary of ARD COOUTH, respectively, said the strike action would commence effectively 12 noon on Thursday.

 

# The member representing Aguata Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Engr. Dom Okafor has condemned what he described as a sponsored attempt to mischievously thwart the laudable intents of a well-thought agricultural empowerment program he hosted for his his recently.

The lawmaker on Tuesday, at a ceremony held at Ekwulobia, the Aguata Council headquarters, distributed wheelbarrows, and other farm implements including machetes and hoes to select farmers drawn from across communities in the constituency.

However, the distribution had been greeted with criticisms by some quarters, most of who accused the lawmaker of underperformance.

Some accused the lawmaker of using the empowerment to encourage young people to go into wheelbarrow pushing.
