* Some health workers in government facilities in Anambra State are not happy with the pronouncement by the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, of free antenatal, delivery services for pregnant women in the state. A top government official disclosed this in a function.
” Our governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo is committed to this project. Though some of our health workers are not happy with the pronouncement. They see it as a way of denying them of ‘some little little back hand income’. “They are secretly protesting against it for selfish interest, because for them that will be the end of their extra income. We won’t allow them to sabotage the programme.
* The Anambra State Government through the State ministry of health has collaborated with Global Fund in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to upgrade the State Pharmaceutical Central Store to an international standard. Commissioner for Health; Dr. Afam Obidike while flagging off the upgrading exercise reiterated the determination of Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration in partnering with the Global Fund and UNICEF geared towards improving the State’s health sector.
* A Non Governmental Organisation First Best Domiciliary Home Care World has launched a programme to take care of aged persons in Anambra state. ANN gathered that the programme is designed to take of the aged people in the state, who are abandoned by their children. Speaking at the launch, Chief Host a United States of America-based clinical psychologist, Prof Kanayo Ofodile described old age as a death sentence in Nigeria.
* Women Living With Disabilities in Anambra State have been trained on ways to avoid cervical cancer and other dangerous infectious diseases that threaten human life and existence. The one-day workshop tagged: “D-Health Talk on Disability Inclusive Dialogue on Family Planning & Cervical Cancer,” was organised by the Association of Anambra State Women with Disabilities (ASSWOD) for her members in the state.
* Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has laid the foundation stone for the Midwifery and Public Health Nursing departments at the Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, Awka. During the ceremony, Archbishop Ibezim celebrated the transformation of the nursing college from its humble beginnings into a hub of learning where healthcare workers are trained to confront the challenges in the healthcare sector, saving lives, impacting local communities, and the society at large.
* The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umuahi has commended the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for drawing the attention of federal government to the gully erosion that is threatening to cut off Onitsha-Owerri Express road on the Oba axis of the road. Umahi while inspecting the ongoing federal projects, gave the commendation when he visited the gully erosion site for an on-the spot assessment. The Minister who also commended Governor Soludo for his proactivity in awarding an erosion control work at the site to save road users from untold hardships, described the gully which has cut off one lane of the express road as a total disaster, promised that the Federal Government will collaborate with the Anambra State Government on the design to ensure that the quality of project meets the challenge.
* The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has said he would have been a teacher if not for the cyclic poverty in his family. He stated this in a chat in his office at Amawbia in the Awka South Local Government Area of the state. He said he had finished every process to becoming a teacher after his graduation from the university but was to wait for six months before posting,but he could not wait for the six months moratorium because of the level of poverty in his family which he needed to salvage.
* Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Anambra state chapter has presented Best President General (PG) Of The Year Award to the PG of Umueri General Assembly, Chief Johnny Metchie. Ohaneze gave the award to Chief Metchie during the inauguration of the new executives of “Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide Anambra East/West Chapter” and award presentation ceremony held at the Secretariat, Otuocha.

* Prof Joseph Ikechebelu of Unizik Awka, Anambra State, has earned a PhD degree. According to a reliable source Ikechebelu defended his PhD at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Ikechebelu, is a professor of medicine and the incumbent deputy vice chancellor of the university. He is eyeing the vice chancellor position of the university.
