* It was a moment of joy as the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, PCN, inducted 128 graduates of Faculty Of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam into the Council.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kate Omenugha noted that the ceremony was a happy moment for her as it is her first induction in the position and commended the Faculty for doing so well and that they are proud of their products.
She pointed out that she wants the faculty to be a centre of excellence as they have the capacity, urging parents to become friends of the University and the graduates to continue to soar like the eagles.
* The Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has caution drivers/transporters to always do the necessary checks before plying the road, especially during this Ember month.
The CP made this call while reacting to the fatal motor accident that occurred along Onitsha- Enugu Old road by Oye agu junction Abagana, that resulted in the death of a five year old girl and four other persons seriously injured.

Anambra State Command, preliminary information reveals that the accident occurred due to the break failure of the Toyota Sienna vehicle carrying passengers and en route to Lagos rammed into traders selling by the roadside at Oye Agu junction.
* Nawfia Progressive Union says no indigene of the community was involved in the ugly incident that occurred in Agu Anaocha Axis of Ifite Nawfia where some indigenes of Enugwu-Ukwu were gruesomely murdered and several others sustaining gun-shot injuries.
The President General of Nawfia Progressive Union, Chief Daniel Okoye while speaking to journalists in Awka,
denied the narrative that the killing was masterminded by the people of his community.
The town union stated that their investigation so far does not suggest the involvement of any Nawfia person in the violent episode and that anyone who has a contrary information should make it available to security and law enforcement agents and Anambra State Government for necessary action .
* The Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, has officially inaugurated the distinguished committee responsible for orchestrating the university’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
This committee is entrusted with the monumental task of curating a Silver Jubilee that impeccably honors the university’s legacy and contributions.
The committee’s pivotal responsibilities encompass; Formulating an exhaustive work plan delineating the schedules, venues, and timelines for the anniversary festivities, Conceptualizing and proposing a series of high-profile events, including scholarly lectures, art exhibitions, musical concerts, and alumni reunions, designed to highlight the institution’s achievements and cultural heritage etc
* Anambra based Pastor, Mr. Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi, has allegedly stabbed wife, late Ogechukwu Okafor to death.
The incident was reported to the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare by the deceased family over the weekend, following irregularities and threats by the alleged husband.
Speaking, Mr Samuel Onuorah, from Abatete, uncle to the deceased, alleged that he got a call from her late niece’s husband that her niece, Ogechukwu, fell from four storey building and died.
Responding the Women Affairs commissioner, Hon. Ify Obinabo called on stakeholders, women groups, human rights activists, and social media users to support the government in ensuring that Ogechukwu gets justice.
She urged everyone to lend their voice on their matter and assured of notifying the wife of the governor whom she knows will take up the case personally and give the deceased justice.
* Former Managing Director (MD) of
Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Sir. Chido Obidiegwu has officially hand over to Mr. Christopher Molokwu.
Molokwu while speaking at ABS Corporate Headquarters in Awka, assured ndi Anambra, South East region, Nigeria of a world-class media organisation that will compete with its contemporaries globally.
Receiving the handover note, Mr. Molokwu who thanked Sir Chido for the success he recorded during his time at the helms of affairs of the organization, assured that he will hit the ground running to turn ABS around as he is optimistic that ABS is blessed with lots of talents and potential to excel.
* The Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme has organized a Town Hall meeting for members of his constituency.
The event which also featured distribution of improved seedlings and plants, with Iwa Ji festival at his compound in Ichi, Ekuwusigo Council area.
Hon. Ofodeme who is the Member representing Ekwusigo constituency
while enumerating many bills he has sponsored and that have been passed into Law, appreciated the constituents for their support.
The lawmaker describing Ekwusigo as the most peaceful local government area in the state, stressed the need for stakeholders in the local government to partner with the government to urbanize the council area.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe as Chairman of the Governing Council for Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
Soludo swore in Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, alongside Prof. Cele Aguruo, Chief Fidelis Nweke, Rev. Sis. Prof. Uju Dibua, and Ven. Dr. Rex Kanu were also sworn in as a member at the Government House, Awka.
Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu is the Provost, while Mrs Edith Nwoye serves as the Acting Registrar, and Mr. Anthony Aniebo, who is the Acting Bursar.
Others are Dr. Chioma Azubike, Acting Librarian, Engr. Nnamdi Onyili, Director of Works, Dr. Urewuchi Udolisa, Staff representative and Mr. Benny Egbunonu, the Public Relations Officer.
* The Anambra House of Assembly has
amended the State Electoral (Amendment No 3) Law 2024 at plenary on Thursday ahead of the September 28 local government election.
The motion for the amendment was moved by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions and member representing Anambra East Constituency, Hon. Obi Nweke and was seconded by Hon. Nobel Igwe.
This was in line with the Standing Order of the House in Order 74, clause one where the rule allows the three readings to be completed in one day with the approval of a two-third majority of the members present.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze said the law shall be cited as Anambra State Electoral Law No 3 2024 and shall take effect on the 12th day of September 2024.
* St Augustine’s Parish, Ichida in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, was agog with pomp and ceremony like no other, as she celebrated no fewer than 42 elders in her fold, comprising octogenarians, nonagenarians, and a super centenarian, Pa Ezike Okoye, who is above 115 years old.
According to the Parish Priest, Rev Fr Jude Ikechukwu Nwankwo, the essence of the celebration, which many adjudged to be a moment of thanksgiving, included recognizing the glorious golden ages of the elders, reminding them of their yesteryears, and offering them an opportunity to enjoy Sunday Eucharistic Mass, among others.
The Parish Priest, who prayed for good health for the elders, said many of them had been confined in homes by old age, resulting in their inability to attend Sunday Masses anymore.
