* A delegation from the Nigeria Union of Mines Workers, Anambra State Chapter has said that their objectives in the state  is to secure complete unionization of all workers employed in Mining,  Quarrying Mineral Processing and Allied products.

The team led by its state Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Onyiah made this known while on a courtesy call on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ANSSMDCL), Prof. Charles Ofoegbu in Awka.

Mr. Onyiah added that the purpose of their visit was also to appraise themselves on the extent of Mining activities going on in the state and to help fish out illegal miners.

He pleaded that the body be carried along in the regulation of mining activities so that its members would not fall victims during the arrest of illegal miners.

*  Governor Chukwuma Soludo says the state has beaten the United Nations student-to-teacher ratio with the recent employment of teachers in the state.

The Governor said this during the third anniversary of the scholarship programme of IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation, which was held at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who represented Soludo at the event, said: ‘With the recent employment of teachers in the state, Soludo has beaten the UN recommended teacher-to-student ratio.

* Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) while on patrol along Nise/Agulu road arrested one Chigozie Ejikeme ‘m’ aged 25 years a native of Abagana who drove suspiciously in an attempt to escape security check. 

According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Operatives searched him and found one locally made bretta pistol with one live 9mm ammunition concealed on his waist.  

The suspect, upon interrogation by the Operatives, confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Secret Cult. The suspect vehicle, a black Lexus was also recovered. 

* Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme has charged Team Anambra athletes and officials to put in their very best and make Anambra State proud at the ongoing 8th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG).

Hon. Ofodeme who is the member representing Ekwusigo Constituency stated this during an interview with sports writers on Thursday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba in the aftermath of the opening ceremony.

The Majority Leader stated that sports today have gone beyond a social event but a field of endeavour one can make a career in and earn a living for both the athletes and their families. 

The lawmaker declared that the current government under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo knows this and have moved a step further by ensuring that Anambra State features in the National Youth Games every year with 2024 year not being an exception.

* Police-led Joint Security Operatives, Aguata Base, acting on credible information, stormed a criminal hideout of suspected vandals and arrested five suspects namely, Okorie Miracle, Joshua Ifeanyi Ekwa, Aneke Okorie, Mmesoma Faithful and Chukwuzekwu Mba, all males and from Umunze, between the ages of 20 – 26 years, recovered locally made short guns, and vandalised Electricity Cables wire and tools, they used to commit the act. 

According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga PPRO of Police, the suspects all confessed to the crime and currently assisting the Police with information to arrest other gang members and buyers of the vandalised items. 

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has advised NYSC Corps members to be security conscious and take proactive measures to ensure their safety and security during their service year.

Maku gave the advice during his visit to deliver a security lecture to 2024 Batch ‘B’ Steam two NYSC Corps members undergoing three -weeks Orientation Course at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/ Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The NSCDC State Commandant assured both the Corps members and NYSC management team of robust security arrangements for a smooth orientation course, and simultaneously encouraged them to prioritize their own security, stressing that individuals are ultimately most capable of ensuring their own safety.

He advised the corps members to refrain from making unauthorized movements and traveling late at night, and to cultivate a sense of security vigilance among themselves during their service year.

* The properties of Anambra State domiciled in Enugu after the sharing of assets of the old Anambra State are not for sale.

This declaration was made by the Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Development Corporation, Hon Chike Anyaonu.

It needs to be recalled that after the creation of states in August 1991 the Federal Government in 1992 undertook the sharing of assets between the then two newly created states, namely Anambra and Enugu States.

The properties inherited by Anambra State in Abuja and Lagos have not had any problems whatsoever, but the ones in Enugu are surreptitiously being preyed upon for sale by some individuals that Hon Anyaonu described as unscrupulous scavengers and grabbers.

* Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned Trans-Nkisi Recreation Centre, Onitsha.

Governor Soludo before Commissioning the project expressed the deliberateness of his administration to transform Onitsha metropolis.

Soludo who described Onitsha as the commercial capital of the South East, said that if it doesn’t move, the entire region will not move.

While speaking about the Onitsha main market, reputed to be the largest market in West Africa, the Governor revealed the existence of a master plan, saying that soon, the market will be rebuilt; with multi-storey complexes, to become 21st century compliant.

* The outgoing Chairman of the Nigerian Society Of Engineers (NSE), Awka Branch 

Engr. David Chizoba Okeke on Friday September 13 2024, officially handed over to the newly elected Chairman Engr. Mrs Oluchi Maryjane Okoli.

Engr. Okeke in his valedictory speech thanked God for the privilege and grace to pilot the affairs of the Nigerian Society of Engineers Awka Branch.

He also thanked the members of the 13th Executive Committee for their support, team work, unity, togetherness, cooperation and solidarity of purpos which helped him in discharging/managing the affairs of the noble Branch.

The outgoing Chairman revealed that affairs of the NSE Awka branch was stable and robust even though there may have been few challenges, he noted that he was happy leaving a united & progressive house having achieved great success.

* Anambra State Housing Commissioner,  Hon. Pauly Onyeaka has advised  graduating students of Pharmacy, Chukwuemeka Odumewu Ojukwu University (COOU), who were recently   inducted into the pharmacy profession to uphold the legacy of their noble profession.

This advise was given at the 3rd Oath Taking/Induction Ceremony of the 2023  Session of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the university, held at the ETF Auditorium, Igbariam, Anambra State.

The commissioner, who doubled as chairman of the occasion, described  a  pharmacist as a disciplined and responsible person  based on  the type of training they receive, which  also has made it a competitive and noble profession with great  potentials in the society.

He  further appreciated the wonderful works executed by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kate Omenugha, adding that  in no distant time, the institution will be ranked one of  the best learning citadels in the country.

* The Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited (ANSSMDCL) and the Anambra State Petroleum and Energy Resources Limited (ANSPERL) will soon be relocating their offices from their present but temporal location at the Government House, Awka to its permanent Office Complex at the Ngozika Housing Estate, Awka.

According to a release signed by Prof. Charles Ononuju Ofoegbu, MD/CEO, ASSMDCL and ASPRL, the relocation follows the acquisition of a property capable of housing overall function of the companies.

The new address is at Block 4, Chief Law Chinwuba Road, Ngozika Housing Estate, Phase 2, Awka, Anambra State.
