* Anambra state government has warned developers, traders and residents against stacking building materials along the roads and drainages.

The Managing Director, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere issued the warning during the command’s regular drive around the state, especially in Nnewi.

According to Comrade Anere, the increasingly rate of stacking of building materials on the roads is worrisome as it poses greater danger to road users and blockage of water channels as he said that the agency will commence confiscating such materials and issuing notices to developers.

He noted that the operation was to ensure that traders doing business along the road as well as developers across the drainages were removed and their goods and materials confiscated.

* Following the environmental pollution and degradation caused by unauthorised mining activities in Anambra State and the consequential damage to our roads, constructed with tax payers money, mining was necessarily suspended.

A special committee on mining reform was subsequently set up by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to emplace best standard of practice and screen operators for his approval.

According to Anambra Commissioner for Information, Sir. Paul Nwosu, the process has been completed and the Governor has approved the Certificate of five (5) miners to resume their mining operations, but in strict compliance with newly prescribed modus operandi.

Prospective operators in the State are enjoined to comply with the requirements for mining to enable them seek and obtain the Governor’s approval to commence their operations.

* Anambra State is positioning itself to field a formidable team for the 2024 National Youth Games, as preparations for the 2024 National Youth Games kicks off with a series of screenings across multiple sporting disciplines.

Leading the effort is the Director of the Commission, Mrs. Okwonna Faith, alongside a dedicated team tasked with identifying talented athletes who will represent the state at the prestigious national event.

In an interview with sports journalists, Mrs. Okwonna expressed her satisfaction with the progress and the level of organization at the various screening venues. She emphasized the importance of adhering to eligibility requirements, noting that only participants with a valid National Identification Number (NIN) would be considered, and any athletes exceeding the age limit would be disqualified.

Mrs. Okwonna also commended the coaches for their diligent work in facilitating the process.

 

* A total of 250 pupils and students have received scholarship awards from the I.G. Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation, IGAHAF making it a total of 670 persons on the scholarship scheme of the foundation.

The scholarship awards which were presented to the beneficiaries during the 2024 Education Seminar and Scholarship Awards Ceremony of the foundation held at International Convention Center, Awka saw Victoria Omumatu, Chisom Nwankwo and Precious Obasi going home with a cash prize of N350,000 and latest versions of laptop each for their exceptional performances.

The third education and IGAHAF seminar and fifth phase of scholarship award ceremony attracted beneficiaries, their parents, political appointees, captains of industry ,the religious led by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, traditional rulers and lovers of education.

* The Managing Director, Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr. Fred Agbata, has emphasized that the agency is committed to building and deepening the e-governance capacity of the state government.

Agbata disclosed this when he received the Anambra state House of Assembly Committee on Information at the Agency’s base at the Government House in Awka.

Chairman of the Committee and member representing Onitsha South one Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, noted that the objective of the visit was to get a comprehensive knowledge of the agency’s operational policy, discuss the challenges and fashion out best ways to achieve greater results within the framework and ambits of the law.

* The Strengthening Public Accountability for Result and Knowledge, SPARK 2 project implementing team has held a high-level stakeholder engagement with state actors in Anambra State to discuss the goal and objectives of the project as well as areas of collaboration with the state government.

The occasion, which attracted officials from the ministries of Health and Agriculture, the SPARK 2 implementing partners promised to complement government efforts towards improved service delivery in health and agricultural sectors.

Addressing the meeting, the IBP SWOFON Consultant, Mr. Folahan Johnson, commended the decision of the Anambra state government to develop a database for its farmers for enhanced efficiency and productivity.

* The people of Mbanano in Enugwu-Agidi community, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State have called for the urgent intervention of the state government over the alleged invasion of their ancestral lands by group of notorious land grabbers.

They unanimously called for the urgent intervention of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led Anambra State government on the matter, to ensure that the rule of law is vehemently upheld, to prevent further breach of peace, law and order in Mbanano Enugwu-Agidi by group of legally-defeated intruders and obstinate land grabbers.

Mbanano, which is made up of four villages in Enugwu-Agidi, made the call in a press conference held recently at the palace of late H.R.H. Igwe D.O. Ikeanyi, Okpalariam II of Enugwu-Agidi, where they also raised an alarm over the unrestrained contempt of court being perpetrated by the said notorious land grabbers.

 

* Federal Science and Technical College, Awka has held a users’ training workshop under the Innovation, Development, and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills, project of the World Bank.

The workshop held at the school premises was organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The project is a four-component development initiative of the World Bank targeted at enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian skills development system to produce relevant skills for the formal and informal sectors.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to receive more commendation for fulfilling promises of transforming all sectors of the state economy.

The Chairman Contact and Mobilization of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Idemili South Local Government Area, Chief Dozie Okafor while commenting on the thirty third anniversary of the creation of Anambra State, said Ndi Anambra have every reason to celebrate good governance and accelerated pace of development.

Chief Okafor noted that the Governor through his visionary and purposeful leadership has sustained the drive to achieve liveable and prosperous state with enough opportunities for everybody and a reference point in the country.

* The APGA flag bearer for the 2024 Nnewi North Local government Chairmanship Election Hon. Echezona Anazodo has described the Afiaolu Nnewi Festival as a way of preserving the Rich Cultural Heritage of Nnewi handed over to us by our Parents.

He made this assertion while attending the 2024 Afiaolu festival of Umudim community on Friday 30th August 2024 at Obi Umudim Nnewi.

Hon. Anazodo stressed the importance of the festival to the community highlighting that it is an avenue for us to thank God Almighty for making us witness a bountiful harvest within this period.
