* The people of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra have declared September 19, 2024, as a mourning day for the community to honour their sons who were murdered on September 9, 2024.
The Secretary-General of the Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU), Chief Chinedu Nnatu, announced that the community will mourn those K!lled at Agu Isionye, Enugwu-Ukwu, near the Ifite Nawfia boundary, by gunmen.
According to him, the decision was made by the community leadership, including the traditional council and the President-General, to honour the victims of the attack.
* A 24 year Anambra tech guru from Anambra state, Stanley Anigbogu has won Dh 500,000 Sharjah international award in UAE.
Anigbogu won the award through his Foundation that converted plastic and e-waste to light up refugee communities and underserved regions across Africa.
LightEd Impact Foundation was selected from over 527 candidates from 53 countries for the eighth Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support.
* Anambra State government has urged members of various communities to embrace peaceful co-existence for significant progress and all round development.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim gave the charge during the general meeting of Mbaukwu community at the town hall.
Deputy Governor Ibezim who described peace as paramount to societal progress and development, said that community members should learn to tolerate each other in the collective interest.
Explaining that all efforts he is making in the community as an illustrious son, are geared towards the betterment of the town, Dr Ibezim encouraged members of the town to always try to contribute their quota in making the community an envy of its counterparts.
* The Unified Anambra State Universal Basic Education Teaching Modules for Primary Schools has been launched in Anambra State.
The event was held at the Archbishop Obiefuna Retreat and Conference Centre, Okpuno Awka during the annual Leadership Retreat of Headteachers, Officers-in-charge and Directors in the Basic Education sector.
Unveiling the Unified Teaching Modules, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh commended the Head Teachers for assisting the Ministry of Education to implement Mr. Governor’s lofty agenda in the education of Anambra children.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed that work should commence immediately at the Kaolin Processing Plant, Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, Prof.Charles Ofoegbu made this known when he and his team visited the site to ascertain and familiarise with the Traditional ruler of the Community and his Chiefs about the plans of the Government in setting up the Processing Plant for the benefit of the Community and the state at large.
Prof. Ofoegbu explained that the Project which was long anticipated was finally here for immediate commencement and that the state governor has approved and procured everything needed for the commencement of the Project which will be Commissioned by January 2025.
* The Anambra State Government through Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has vowed to enforce laws against illegal mining and dredging as well as prosecute their violators in the state.
The Managing Director of the Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere made the promise at Bridge Head Onitsha where he added that the agency had commenced a visitation exercise across the state.
Some of the areas visited are Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Nibo in Awka south Local Government Area where the brigade arrested defaulters and re-sealed off their illegal premises.
According to Anere, the exercise comes on the heels of reports by residents that illegal sand mining activities have recommenced in the areas without the provision of the requisite approvals from the State Government.
* The management of Sahara Upstream Production Ltd says it got proper approvals from relevant agencies and the Anambra State government before it started scouting operations in some communities in the State.
The oil exploration company gave this clarification when it appeared before the Anambra State House of Assembly to interact with the law makers over their operations and activities so far in the area.
The House Committee on Petroleum and Mineral Resources invited the company after it received several petitions and protest letters from some members of the public over the activities of the Company in Ihiala and Ogbaru local government areas.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze during his remarks at the Executive session, noted that there have been series of reports and petitions against the company over their activities in the oil producing communitiees in Anambra state.
* The United States Agency for International Development, Coca Cola and TechnoServe through the Nigerian Plastic Solutions Activity in collaboration with the Anambra State Waste Management Authority, (ASWAMA) have called on ndi Anambra to desist from wrong disposal of plastic wastes to make the ecosystem safe for all.
The groups also displayed placards with inscriptions like “Be an environmental champion by joining plastic solutions programme”, “Plastic Don change” “Make money and make your community healther ” among others.
The exercise which started from Aroma junction and ended at Awka South local government headquarters saw the group sensitise members of the public against dumping plastic waste inside drainages and on the roads as it affects the ecosystem and causes flooding.
* Soludo Support Group (SSG), a flagship organisation which fought tooth and nail with its grassroots structures in the 326 political wards of Anambra State to ensure the election of Professor Chukwuma Soludo as Governor, has declared total and unflinching support for all the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming September 28 Local Government Elections.
The declaration which was made through a voice vote at Maybond hotel Awka, had SSG members promising all the Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa led national leadership APGA candidates in the upcoming LG Elections that SSG would deploy all its structures to ensure that APGA mayors, Deputy mayors and councilors win in all the 21 local government areas as well as the 326 political wards of the state.
The Convener and National Coordinator of SSG Hon. Chief Chinedu Nwoye, who presided over an elaborate meeting with the candidates said victory is sure come September 28th.
* Justice Development and Peace Caritas Commission [JDPC], Awka Diocese, receny held her one week annual event in different parishes.
Delivering his lecture during the event at St Thomas Aquinas  Catholic Church, GRA, Awka, on the topic,  ‘Promoting Entrepreneurial Literacy – The Role of Catechesis and Homilies and Microfinancing and Small Business Development-The Place of the Church’, Sir Chuka Nnabuife stated that an entrepreneur must be somebody who sees a need in the society, takes risk with his money and must do the investment with interest.
He explained that an enterprise must be satisfactory to the society and the person who has an enterprise must make sure that it is a growing concern.
