* Ohaneze Ndigbo Vice President Chief Damian Okeke Ogene has called on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency on federal roads in Anambra State and the South-East region in general. Speaking in Awka, Okeke Ogene said the federal government should also take decisive action to address the menace of erosion in the region.
* The Anambra State Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) has paid a courtesy call to the Local government Chairman, Hon. ThankGod Anago on the occasion of conflict resolution committee meeting held in Awka North LGA hall.
Anago in a remark commended the VCDP team for the giant stride and expressed gratitude on the milestone achieved so far in Awka North LGA.
* Onitsha South Local Government, Anambra state has sealed the Nigerian Inland Water Authority (NIWA) operator park over non-payment of N500 million taxes and levies.
The Onitsha local government council recently took possession and revoked approvals it granted to operator years ago. The Chairman of the local government area Mr Emeka Joseph Orji said the council revoked and sealed the operator of the market and motor park because he is owing arrears of over N500 million tin axes and levies.
* The Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Hon. Chikodi Anara has warned those who are causing trouble in Isuaniocha Community, Awka North Local Government Area of the State to distance his name from their wickedness, endless mischief-making and suppression of their people. Anarah in a statement which was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), Mr. Nweke Nweke and made available to newsmen warned that any further move to tarnish his image would not be tolerated.
* The youths of Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have denied forcing non-indigenes in the community to buy forms and pay for ID cards, in the name of resident permit. This was in response to reports trending on various social media platforms, alleging that youths of the town organized themselves and created a resident permit, without any authorization or constitutional backing, and break into people’s home for the collection of the permit, beating-up or seizing property of people who fail to pay.
* The President General of the Amansea Town Union Mr. Christian Ughanze has lauded his efforts in roads rehabilitation. In a press statement in Amansea, Mr.Ughanze noted his satisfaction in his determination to wipe away the tears of the people of the area.
* The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has applauded the State Government partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Dr. Obidike made the commendation at the conclusion of a 5-day Review of 2023 Annual Operational Plan (AOP) and Development of 2024 AOP workshop in Awka.
* The Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra West Local Government Area, Mr. Felix Ikechi, has inspected the ongoing renovation works at Crowther Memorial IDP Camp Onitsha. The visit by Mr. Ikechi was aimed at assessing the progress made, address any challenge discovered, and ensure that the camps renovation is moving in the right direction and equally completed swiftly as recommended.
* Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly Nze Pius Okoye has intervened in flood erosion threatening 230 buildings in Amawbia Awka South local government area.
Two private schools and a three-star hotel are among the buildings being threatened by the flood erosion. The erosion menace had almost swept away five schoolchildren but the speedy intervention of residents in the area created an ugly situation.
* Suspected car robbers have allegedly abandoned their gang member after in a robbery operation, while hurrying to getaway in Ihiala LGA , Anambra state. In a video trending on social media showed the moment the armed robbers dispossessed the man of his vehicle, but in their haste to leave, they sped off, abandoning one of their members, who chased them on foot.
* Traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka the third has attributed rapid development recorded in his community to the miracle of God.
Igwe Iweka who has been in the forefront in championing end to sell and distribution of illicit drugs and other criminal activities in Obosi said in an interview that God was part of his administration alongside members of his cabinet who are committed to working with him to achieve greatness for the community.
* Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court sitting in Awka has remanded four suspects for committing offenses bordering on defilement, conspiracy, attempted murder, attack with harmful substance and false pretense to help childless couple adopt children at the sum of two million, three hundred thousand naira. The court adjourned the case to twenty-fifth October, first November and eight November for definite hearing.
