* The APC Gubernatorial Aspirant for the 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State Sir Paul Chukwuma has urged the Anambra chapter of the party to brace up and organize itself well for an effective push for a regime change in the coming governorship race in the state.

Speaking during a meeting with APC LGA Chairmen and Ward Chairmen in Awka recently, Sir Chukwuma who spoke through the Director General of his campaign council, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi, assured party faithful that their hopes and aspirations of engineering a leadership change that would benefit the people of the state would not be cut off.

 

* Anambra State Government through
the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism is preparing to train approximately hundred (100) young individuals in film production and the creative industry.

The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji while speaking at flag off of the maiden film production training located within the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) premises, emphasized that the training is aimed at providing youth with the opportunity to join the global movement by equipping themselves with skills in content creation, film production, cinematography, editing, post-production, marketing, among others

Onyenji noted that besides agriculture, the creative industry is a major source of employment and with the rise of social media, many individuals are earning money from various sectors through content creation.

 

* The Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Awka, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, has thrown her weight behind the ongoing bamboo revolution being championed by the Sahelian Institute for Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development, (SIBRED).

SIBRED, headquartered at NAU, is the first University based bamboo research instituted serving Nigeria and 15 other West African nations including neighbouring countries.

The Vice Chancellor made the pledge when SIBRED delegation led by its Founding Director, John Agbo Ogbodo, paid a courtesy visit to her office to share the vision and mission of the institute with her.

* The Rotary Club of Awka Central, District 9142 has installed Mr Ekene Agubata as its president for 2024-2025 service year.

The epoch making ceremony which held in Awka also featured induction of new members and presentation of awards to individuals who have impacted humanity positively.

In his acceptance speech after taking the oath of office and allegiance, Mr Agubata explained that within one year he will pilot the affairs of the club, he will execute community, economic development and youth empowerment projects, clean up services at different locations in Awka, arresting maternal and child mortality, among others; even as he urged all members of the club to give him all the necessary support he needs to succeed.

* The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has pledged to give priority attention to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the September 28 local government election in Anambra State.

ANSIEC made the pledge at the weekend, while addressing members of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Anambra State Chapter, during their quarterly general meeting in Abagana, Njikoka Local government area of the state.

Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, during his presentation, urged ANSIEC to remove barriers that hinders his member’s active participation in voting and other electoral processes in the state.

* A group of protesters from Amanuke in Awka North Local Government has staged a counter peaceful protest, insisting that the traditional ruler imposed on the community by the Obiano administration has torn the community apart, throwing it a perpetual leadership crisis.

The protest which is coming barely a week after another group from the community led a protest against land grabbing in the community where they fingered some individuals for illegally disposing community lands.

The protesters numbering in their hundreds claimed that the previous protesters were stage managed and that their that land grabbing is the major reason for the lasting dispute in the community is untrue.

* Governor of Anambra State Prof Charles Soludo has stated that the State government recognised only Association of Non Indigenes In Anambra State ANIAS headed by Prince Chigozie Nweke as National President.

He warned one Mr. Amos Nkwuda who has been parading himself as Igwe of Non Indigenes In Anambra State to stop immediately or face the wrath or government.

According to a Communique reached during a fact finding meeting at the government house Awka, the Commissioner for local government and Town Union Affairs Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne who spoke on behalf of the governor stated one Mr Amos Nkwuda is not a Traditional Ruler and has no certificate as Igwe of Non Indigenes In Anambra State.

According to Nwabunwanne, if not for some reasons Amos Nkwuda should have been stripped off the Traditional Ruler regalia he wore to the government house.

* The Chairman of All Soludo Support Groups and Convener of Soludo Support Group, SSG, Mr Chinedu Nwoye, has said that the development projects, policies and programmes of Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration are known and felt by the masses, reason it’s easier to support the Governor.

Speaking in Awka, Nwoye, who is the Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, charged the various Soludo support groups to ensure that they get down to the grassroots and translate their supports to votes.

He maintained that so far; Governor Soludo, who has plans to expand the free education programme of his administration, has done more than people who stayed eight years in office as Governors.

* Awka community has made a strong case for the establishment of the Department of Blacksmithing and Foundry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to save the blacksmith industry from extinction.

The Traditional Ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, made the call when the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Carol Umeobi, and top management staff of the University paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.

Obi Nwosu, speaking through the Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Benjamin Okoye, urged the Vice Chancellor to consider the establishment of the Department as a legacy project, which will encourage youths to engage in the study and training of blacksmithing.

He also requested more slots for Awka indigenes in admissions and employment, commending the Vice Chancellor for her positive start, assuring all government establishments domiciled in Awka of a conducive environment for service delivery.

* The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has enjoined Market Leaders, Traders and Importers under the auspices of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated  Traders Association (ASMATA) to collaborate with SON in combating the proliferation of substandard products saying that together they could build a healthier, more prosperous, and successful nation.

Speaking during the Public/Stakeholders sensitization in Onitsha, Anambra State, the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke  explained that the objective of the ongoing nationwide stakeholder sensitization programmes was not only to educate operators on the provisions of the SON Act No. 14 of 2015 but also to enhance stakeholder engagement and foster stronger collaborations.

The DG, represented by the Director, Public Relations Department of the SON, Mrs Folusho Bolaji noted that the theme of the sensitization is “SON requirements and Compliance Monitoring Activities to Curb Influx and Sale of Substandard Products in Nigeria’’, and the primary objective is not only to raise awareness on all SON activities and related issues but also to enhance collaboration among stakeholders as well as foster productive partnerships, particularly in alignment with the ongoing initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to revamp the nation’s economy.
