* Education Secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Rev. Fr. Maximus Okonkwo has issued a stern warning to students to shun any act of cultism as they prepare to resume school on Monday. Addressing a crowd of students from different schools at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, during the 2023 Help for All Foundation Day event, Fr. Okonkwo expressed his concern over the increase in cultism among students and called for urgent action to curb the menace.
* Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has appealed to the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to call his Deputy Chief Of Staff/State Chief of Protocol, Mr Chinedu Nwoye (Glamour) and the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Government, Mr Clement Aguiyi, to order over their obviously meddlesome roles in the Nawfia traditional stool. Igwe Nwankwo made the appeal at a press conference in his palace in Nawfia.
* Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo says the advocacy to establish peace as a prerequisite for development has to begin from the actions of all stakeholders involved in the campaign. Mrs Soludo, who stated this in a statement released in Awka to mark the explained that achieving peace is everyone’s task, and should not be left only in the hands of a few people.
* Anambra State Chapter of The South East APC Young Progressives Forum has criticized Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s free education policy. Convener of the group, Mr Pascal Candle in a press release said: “We have watched with dismay as the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo flagged off what he described as ‘free and qualitative education across all government owned nursery, primary and junior secondary school classes in Anambra State’.
* The government of Anambra State has expressed disappointment and regret that Electricity Transformers bought with tax payers’ money and given to communities in the state by the previous administration to improve their power supply are yet to be installed and utilized by these communities. A release signed by the Anambra Commissioner for Information Sir Paul Nwosu states that most of these transformers have unfortunately been vandalized, abandoned and left to deteriorate and overgrown by weeds.
* The Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye says Governor Soludo is determined to build a liveable, secured and prosperous Anambra. Mr. Nwoye disclosed this during a stakeholders and executives of Soludo Support Group, SSG meeting hosted by the Anambra Central Coordinator of the group, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim in Awka.
* Anambra State Government has increased the monthly running cost for public schools in the state from ten thousand to a minimum of fifty thousand naira. Governor Chukwuma Soludo made the announcement while holding an interactive session with Head teachers and Principals of public schools in the state at the International Convention Centre Awka.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo says, the challenges faced by Nigeria are numerous but admits there are reasons to celebrate. The Governor stated this when he attended mass to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Celebration at St. Patrick Cathedral, Awka.
* The Federal Government, through the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission, has approved payment of a newly approved percentage increment in salaries for academic and non-academic staff of all its tertiary institutions across the country, ANN has learnt. As a consequence, lecturers of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State and others will be beneficiaries.
* The traditional ruler of Nawfia community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRH Igwe Dr. Ogochukwu Daniel Obelle said there have been attempts on his life since he became the dueling elected traditional ruler of the community on February 26, 2022.
Obelle said if anything happens to him, the government, security agencies and the good people of Nawfia should hold his rival, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo responsible.
* Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has announced that his administration will recruit 3000 additional teachers to be posted exclusively to public schools in the state. Governor Soludo made the announcement to recruit the additional 3,000 teachers during a visit to Community Secondary School, CSS, Isuofia, Aguata Council Area.
* Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka, is holding a capacity building workshop for all the newly recruited teachers in the six educational zones of the state. The workshop will run from Thursday, 21st to Friday, 29th September,2023 and has its theme as “Building A Professional and Effective Teacher”.
