* Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has voted at his Ofuiyi Square, polling unit 002, Umueze-Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area.
The governor after casting his vote said the anticipated victory of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA will be a foretaste of his victory in the Anambra 2025 governorship election, which is expected to hold around November next year.
Soludo also adjudged the ongoing process as being seamless and an example of what an election should be.
* Prof. Meshach Nnama Umenweke, a distinguished Professor of Tax Law at the Department of Public Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has identified the breach of social contract by the government as a significant factor contributing to tax evasion in Nigeria.
During his inaugural lecture, titled “Nigerian Taxation and the Social Contract: A Legal Analysis of the Benefits and Breaches,” he emphasized that sustainable change in tax compliance can only occur if the government fulfills its obligations under the social contract with the citizens.
Prof. Umenweke argued that respect for the social contract should serve as the benchmark for evaluating good governance in Nigeria, noting that a government’s ability to provide for its citizens determines the willingness of individuals to pay taxes. He further criticized the current tax collection system, stating that an effective tax system must be clear, specific, and predictable in terms of rates and laws.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has commended the State government for providing adequate security and enabling environment across the State especially in Ogbaru local government area during the local government election.
Speaking to newsmen at Atani, Ogbaru Council Area shortly after voting in his polling unit- 007 in the Council Secretariat, Rt. Hon. Udeze expressed satisfaction with the large turn out of voters in Ogbaru local government area, noting that the electorate were happy that democracy and more development projects will be brought to them through the local council election.
The Speaker enjoined Ndi Ogbaru to continue to support the present administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in appreciation for the development efforts the government is making in the council area.
* Journalists have been urged to seek ways to mitigate the negative impact of new media on Nigerian children, but to encourage them to embrace and make use of it in positive ways.
Various speaker in the day one of the two-day maiden national summit on child rights, by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The workshop was organized for journalists in Anambra State.
The speakers included the acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Carol Arinze-Umobi and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna.
Arinze-Umobi in her address to declare the workshop open said children deserve to be protected from the harm that abound on social media, without necessarily keeping them aware from using the digital age to leverage their studies.
* The candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) election, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, exercised his franchise at polling unit 002, Ifite-Ani, Iruokofia, Nimo ward 2.
Ononiba, who voted around 12.30pm, described the exercise as hitch-free and credible, praising the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), the security and voters for their conduct.
The TC Chairman praised governor Chukwuma Soludo on his various developmental projects in the State, including keeping to his promise of conducting a Council poll that is free, fair and credible.
The Njikoka Council boss commended the youth and aged for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.

* Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism industry Mr Don Onyenji has revealed that high rate of insecurity in the state is hindering development and benefit of tourism industry in human growth and well-being.
Onyenji made the statement on Friday when the state joined millions of people across the globe to celebrate “World Tourism Day .
He urged wealthy Anambra people and community leaders to join hands with Governor Charles Soludo as there is need to curb insecurity to its barest minimum for development of tourism in Anambra to thrive.
* The Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has taken legal action against candidates that contested the September 28 local government elections on its platform.
This was disclosed by State Chairman of the party Hon. Ugochukwu Emeh during a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Udoka, Awka.
According to Engineer Theo Egbe, the party’s state publicity secretary, who read the press statement, LP had long boycotted the Anambra State Local Government poll, describing it as a sham.
However, a faction of the party led by Peter Okoye had earlier rejected claims of boycotting the election, insisting the party was prepared for the polls as a test for the 2025 governorship election.
* Traders in Anambra State has maintained their position that Governor Chukwuma Soludo would not be voted for second tenure in office come 2025 unless the President General (PG), Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association, (ASMATA), Chief Humphrey Anuna and his Special Adviser, (SPAD), on Trade and Markets, Hon. Evarist Uba were sacked.
Briefing newsmen in Awka recently, they accused those who defended the duo of SPAD and ASMATA PG as counter publication, of being bought over, adding that their defence was of no effect as the entire traders in the state had made their position loud and clear.
Speaking on behalf of traders at Onitsha Main Market, Chief Mathew Uchuga, said: “We maintain our earlier position that Soludo should sack SPAD and ASMATA PG and conduct market election for us to vote for his second tenure. It is no big deal, it is just that the duo are selfish and they ushered in nepotism in the market.
* Anambra state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor has lauded ndị Anambra over the peaceful conduct of the local government elections held today, September 28, 2024.
Dr Mefor, who spoke to newsmen in an interview at Ǹkwọ Agbaja Hall, Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, after monitoring various polling units in various communities of the state, expressed satisfaction over the impressive turnout of people to cast their votes.
“You can see for yourselves that there is impressive turnout of voters. From the reports we got all over the state; because we have our people on ground. The reports we are getting from them are confirming that the turnout was fair enough because we didn’t expect any less.
