* Commutters plying Enugu-Onitsha express road would now have a sigh of relief following a major rehabilitation work done on the failed portion of the Agu Awka Junction axis of the road by Anambra state government. ANN observed that laying of asphalt was on going on the failed portion of the road with materials and personnel available for the job.

* Men suspected to be cultists has butchered a mentally ill man in Awka, the Anambra State capital, dismembering his body with all manner of dangerous weapons. A source who revealed this to newsmen said the deceased man, who is very well known in Zik Avenue part of Awka was in his regular post at Dike Park, when the men suspected to be cultists came for him.

* Anambra State Government has called for urgent intervention of the Federal Government on the multiple erosion sites on the popular Onitsha/Owerri road by Oba and Ozubulu. ANN reports that Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim made the call when he recently visited the sites. Dr Ibezim who regretted the devastation caused already on the road by erosion, appealed to the federal government to urgently do the needful and intervene on the three erosion sites on the road to save people in the area from untold hardship and prevent lose of life and property.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo says in the coming weeks, the state government will commence marking on Anambra roads, to differentiate between red zones and free zones for motorists. Soludo also directed that from Tuesday September 5, 2023, nobody should be fined more than five thousand Naira for traffic offences by Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA untill the road marking is completed.

* Anambra state government has cautioned health workers against abuse of the free antenatal care and free delivery which was declared by Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently in his bid to ameliorate the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy. The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike said that the Governor’s good intention for every pregnant woman across the state should not be taken for granted, as anyone found demanding money or diverting materials or drugs would face serious sanctions, as the idea is for every woman to receive the free services from all the Primary Healthcare Centres and General Hospitals across the state.

* All eyes on the judiciary is a pupular saying by most Nigerians and the citizenry are anxiously waiting for tomorrow’s (Thursday) judgement by the tribunal. Speaking in an exclusive interview with ANN, the member representing Ogbaru One constituency at the Anambra State house of assembly Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe says the judiciary are very competent and are independent and know what is right and will do what is right for Nigerians.

* The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr Don Onyenji has expressed optimism that the tourist sites in Anambra State will soon become attractive. Mr Onyenji said that some of them like the Solution Fun City, and Agulu Lake, among others are being developed into entertainment centers.

* Sariki Hausa Amawbia, Haruna Adamu has banned night movement of “Iron condemn” truck pusher in Ezimezi bypass, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. This followed protest by residents of the area against vandals suspected to “Iron condemn” operators, mostly by Hausa traders, in the area.

* The traditional ruler of Awa Community in Orumba North Local Government Area, Igwe Israel Ezue has joined well-meaning Ndi Anambra in baring his mind on the Pace of development in Anambra State which just clocked thirty-two. Igwe Ezue who expressed with mixed feelings the rate of development in Anambra State since its creation, however commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for remembering the hinterlands in his developmental Programmes.

* Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State is yet to receive N500 million take off grant from the Federal Government 32 years after it was established. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Charles Esimone disclosed this in an interview with journalists.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, has described as inciting and untrue, the reports making the rounds and alleging that he and Governor Chukwuma Soludo ‘knocked’, ‘faulted’ and ‘condemned’ the immediate-past Governor Willie Obiano and the actions he took against the 12 traditional rulers in the state who visited former President Muhammadu Buhari without authorization.

* Two traditional sports, draught and ncho; also known as ayo will feature at the first Anambra traders’ sports championship scheduled to hold between October and November this year. The Main Organising Committee, MOC, of sports event included the two board games during its meeting in Awka.
