* The Anambra State Government has said it will create an online platform to checkmate cases of corruption associated with the payment of health charges across the 617 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state. The platform will help to improve the working relationship between the rural dwellers, civil society organisations, media, the state ministry of health and the PHC employees and also the financial transactions. The state commissioner for health, Dr Afam Obidike, disclosed this during the inauguration of the 3rd state council meeting on health organized in Awka, on Thursday, by the state Ministry of Health in collaboration with her partners including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union.

* Igwe Davison Okafor& Mercy Ikeanyi (IDOM) and Life Care Coalition Outreach (LCCO) Foundations have organised international free seminar/workshop on teaching and learning for public and private school principals in Anambra State, to tackle the declining trend in the standard of education in Nigeria. The workshop, which took place at Hilton Leisure Hotels, Awka, attracted over 100 principals drawn across the secondary schools in the state. Speaking while inaugurating the workshop with the theme, “the role of the school principal in arresting the declining trend in the standard of education in Anambra State, Nigeria”, a US-based educational leadership expert and founder, IDOM Foundation, Prince DrChineduIkeanyi, reeled off the rationale behind the august occasion.

*Two professional boxers from Anambra won their fights on Tuesday in the Monarch Promotions ‘King of the Ring 2’ show at the prestigious Eko Club at Bode Thomas Surulere Lagos. Victor Beneth fighting in the Light Heavyweight category defeated Ghanaian, Joseph Tetteh via unanimous decision after 8 Rounds of actions. It was Beneth’s third straight victory as he now has a record of four fights, three wins and one draw (3-0-1).

* Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo has declared that he is going to end the ongoing compulsory stay-at-home on Mondays after the Christmas holidays.

Governor Soludo, who made the declaration while addressing Anambra workers at the Secretariat Complex,Awka recently, said other geopolitical zones in Nigeria have five working days but it is only the Southeast Geopolitical Zone that people work just for four days because some disgruntled elements imposed a mandatory illegitimate sit-at-home on Mondays which he said is adversely affecting the economy of the zone.

* The Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, Anambra State Chapter has celebrated the fourth anniversary of Disability Rights Law (2018) and recounted success stories since its creation as well as evaluating their efforts in seeking the change they desired. According to the members of the disability community, they are often marginalized and segregated against in the society and sometimes largely excluded from participating in community development, education and training, health services, and even in marriage and employment opportunities until the enactment and domestication of the Disability Rights Law.

* The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on Local Government Affairs, Barrister Asha Nnabuife has put smiles on the faces of about 2000 persons in the spirit of Christmas celebration to ensure that the less privileged and some political party faithful did not go hungry during the Yuletide. According to the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) stalwart who was the former Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area (INLGA), for the past 15 years, I have been empowering and gifting people from all the wards that make up INLGA and the less privileged neighbors with cash and food items every Christmas.

*Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has organized an end of the year party for elderly people in Awka South Local Government Area.

 

The elderly people gathered at the Ignatius Akubude Centre, Amwabia, to celebrate the Yuletide with the organization, which aims to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

* Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Eworo Echeng has admonished the citizenry to be vigilant and security conscious as they celebrate with friends and families this festive season. Echeng, whose admonition is contained in the press statement released by the police public relations officer of the state command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu Anthony, on Thursday, further informed the general public that all fireworks associated with the yuletide season have been banned forthwith to prevent unforeseen avoidable circumstances.
