US President Donald Trump has urged FIFA to award the World Cup to the United States again “immediately,” praising the 2026 tournament as a resounding success while attending the final at MetLife Stadium.
Speaking to Fox ahead of Spain’s clash with Argentina, Trump addressed FIFA president Gianni Infantino directly.
“I had a great idea for Gianni… But based on the numbers, we will be requesting it again immediately,” he said. “You hear that, Gianni?”
Trump highlighted the tournament’s strong attendances and lauded Infantino’s role. “I don’t think there’s ever been anything like what’s happened with the whole World Cup. It’s been beautiful… and I really give Gianni the credit,” he added.
The next World Cup is scheduled for Spain, Portugal and Morocco in 2030, with the 2034 edition in Saudi Arabia.
Trump’s comments come after the US co-hosted the 2026 edition with Canada and Mexico.
