US President Donald Trump has instructed the military to suspend planned attacks on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days, citing productive peace talks with Tehran that began two days ago.
The temporary halt is conditional on the progress of ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving hostilities in the Middle East.
Trump announced the decision in a statement, saying: “Based on the tenor and tone of the talks, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings.”
He added that the United States and Iran “have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”
The move comes amid the broader US-Israeli campaign against Iran that escalated after the February 28 assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. No further details on the specific talks or potential outcomes were provided.
