Two Injured, Four Escape Unhurt As Trailer Falls Off Nkpor Bridge In Anambra

Two male adults sustained minor injuries, while four other persons escaped unhurt in a road crash that occurred on Saturday at the Nkpor Bridge section of the Onitsha–Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz articulated truck (registration number FTD581XA), two commercial shuttle buses (ENU540ZJ and BKL661XA), and an Audi Volkswagen car (ENU528MK).

The FRSC said its rescue team from the Upper Iweka Outpost responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure was the likely cause of the accident. Eyewitnesses reported that the articulated truck suffered brake failure, veered off the bridge, and landed on vehicles beneath it.

Before the arrival of FRSC personnel, the injured victims had already been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

To prevent further accidents and restore the free flow of traffic, the FRSC deployed its heavy-duty tow truck unit to remove the affected vehicles and clear the obstruction.

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles and commercial transport services, to carry out regular vehicle maintenance and ensure their braking systems are in good condition before embarking on journeys.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to road safety and prompt emergency response across the state.
