The joint security forces in the early hours of Friday rescued unhurt two remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy along Atani/Osamela road in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a release made available to newsmen by DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, PPRO Anambra, ‘operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated.’
ANN reports that the commissioner of Police Anambra State CP Echeng Echeng while responding to questions from reporters in a press briefing held at the police command headquarters Awka on Thursday, stated that the command is focused on bringing the perpetrators of the crime to book as investigations continue.
“The convoy was a target of opportunity because they were attacked on their way back. Perhaps, the hoodlums noticed that they were with police men.
“In trying to curb criminality in the zone, Anambra, Imo and Enugu have been collaborating in fighting this menace through sharing information and joint operation.
“This hoodlums hide in the bush and strike at any given opportunity and run back into the bush.

“Security is the top priority of the Governor of Anambra Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. Much has been done in terms of security. We have had the support of the state government and have created FOBs to take care of our borders. It is expensive but the state government has been supporting us.
“The essence of community policing is for everybody to be involved. We rely on you (citizens) for information because you live with them and know who they are. Give us urgent information and we will come in and do our job. Assist the police when ever you have information.
“In most cases, when we have information, we sit down to analyze and plan an operation. We also need access that will lead us to the exact place. Whenever you see or hear something, tell us.
“We recorded success because just last week, five of them were taken out and arms recovered. We are working round the clock. We are picking them. I can assure you that we will do everything in our power to win them”. Echeng stated.
