The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the rescue of two adult males following the collapse of a one-storey building under construction on Agarawu Street, near Aroloya Central Mosque, in the Idumota area of Lagos Island.
According to a statement released by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
The agency received a distress call via its 767 and 112 Emergency Toll-Free lines at 2:16 p.m., prompting a swift response from its Lekki Base Response Team.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a one-storey building under construction had self-collapsed,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated. “So far, two adult males have been rescued from the rubble and provided with first aid treatment by the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit.”
No additional casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and facilitate investigation into the cause of the collapse, which remains undetermined.
LASEMA confirmed that search and rescue operations have now been concluded.
