Prince Uche Secondus, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concern over an alleged attempt to destabilize the opposition party’s structure.
According to Angel Network News Reporter, Secondus accused an unnamed chieftain of seeking to steal the party’s structure in a statement made by his spokesman, Ike Abonyi.
The anonymous party head was also accused of plotting to “dent the image” of the national chairman, according to reports.
The following was part of the statement:
“Reports arriving this office suggest that this character is using all unscrupulous measures at his disposal to attempt and discredit the National Chairman’s person and reputation in order to hijack the structure for his abnormally huge ambition.”
Meanwhile, following the resignation of prominent leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party, a slew of allegations have been leveled at the party’s executive members.
Former officials who spoke to newsmen after their resignation leveled serious allegations against PDP national chairman Prince Uche Secondus.
They stated, among other things, that the PDP chairman has only met with them three times since they were elected in 2017.
They further said that Secondus lacked the managerial abilities needed to handle the opposition party’s administrative issues, and that he saw them as an afterthought imposed by the PDP’s constitution.
Members of the National Working Committee (NWC), according to one of them, visit governors during festive periods and collect money without sharing anything with them.
In addition, some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are demanding for Uche Secondus to be removed as the party’s chairman.
According to our reporter, although some governors support Secondus’ resignation, others want him to stay on as the PDP’s leader.
The governors took varied positions for and against the Secondus-led NWC, according to the study, with eight out of fourteen governors supporting Secondus, three governors opposing him, and three governors on the fence.
Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Ahmadu Fintiri (Abuja) are among those who reject Secondus and his team, according to the report (Adamawa).
Governors Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom are said to be undecided.
The governors also issued an appeal for calm, advising individuals they labeled as opponents to stay away from the main opposition party, according to our correspondent.
Governor Tambuwal has called an emergency meeting of the governors to discuss the fresh rumblings in the party
