Udemezue Resumes Plenary, Kicks Against ‘Anambra Rural Access Roads Development Agency Bill

The lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Barnard Udemezue, on Tuesday 24th February, resumed plenary.

Angel Network News (ANN) recall that Anambra Assembly after consideration of report by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, headed by the Majority Leader, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme, last Thursday, reinstated Hon. Udemezue after six months of suspension.

In his submission, on a bill for a law to establish the “Anambra State Rural Access Roads Development Agency (ASRARA) 2026”, Udemezue openly kicked against the second reading.

In his words: “I see this bill, as a bill, attempting to make nonsense of the intention of those who designed our government system (Federal, state and local).

“The scope of this bill is nothing new to the duties of our local government, if empowered.

” We have elected local government Chairman and Councillors. If it is too rural that the local government cannot get to it, the Councillors can do so.

” Building and maintenance of rural roads are the duties of the local government administration system. The Councillors and Chairmen can do it better.

“I am not taking lightly, the struggle my constituents went through by electing me
to the House of Assembly and am not here just for the ritual but to represent”.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, maintained that there is need for collaboration between the arms of government.

Rt. Hon. Udeze referred the bill to a joint committee on Works and Infrastructure and committee on Judiciary.

The Speaker urged the joint committee to report back to the House in two week’s time.
