Udeze Emerges Speaker Anambra 8th Assembly As Members Take Oath Of Office

The member representing Ogbaru two constituency at the Anambra state house of assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has emerge as the speaker while the member representing Awka south 2 constituency Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye emerged as the deputy Speaker after a voice note today Monday 12th June 2023.

Anambra assembly acting clerk Mrs. Esther Anaetoh at plenary called for the normination of the speaker. The member representing Ekwusigo constituency Hon. Ofodeme Ikenna norminated
Somtochukwu Udeze and was seconded by the member representing Awka North constituency Hon. Chimezie Johnmark

Hon. Ofodeme Ikenna while giving his reasons for the normination said “As a senior ranking officer with experience, a third timer in the house, Udeze has every legislative qualities. Having checked his records, he has passed lots of bills and motions. He is an erudite politician and has every qualities Anambra state desevers. With Somto Udeze as the speaker, we are going actualize the vision of Mr. Governor”.

The member representing Ogbaru one constituency Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe on his part norminated Okeye Chukwuma Pius as the deputy speaker and was seconded by member representing Ihiala one constituency Hon. Jude Njobili

Hon. Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe while giving his reasons for the normination said “Am nominating Okoye based on his personal capacity. He is a well seasoned legislator. I believe he has the capacity to pilot the affairs of this state house of assembly as the deputy speaker.

Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye in his acceptance speech expressed gratititude to his colleagues for finding him worthy to be the deputy speaker of the 8th assembly. “I will be a good servant to you all and do the right things through protecting the intreast of ndi Anambra and to serve the state deligently in the best of my ability”.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his acceptance speech thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed on him, assuring them and the entire Ndi Anambra that he will not disappoint them.

“The trust to serve as speaker will be of service to the 8th assembly and Anambra. It is a great honour and privilege for me and i wont take it for granted. This is a new begaining and change and i will not disapoint. We shall all work as a team to reposition Anambra state.

” I urge you all to brace up for the great task ahead. Dispite our party differences, we are united as ndi Anambra whose campaign trust was on improving security and welfare of our people through developmental project, bills and motions.

” The 8th assembly under my watch will foster a great relationship between the executive and judiciary. Based on cooperation and motual respect. I look forward to an healthy inter-dependent where each arm approach each other as a responsible partner in governance. We must hit the ground running”.

Governor of Anambra state Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in his speech congratulated the new 8th assembly urging them to leave up to expectation.

” All of you together with the executive and the judiciary have all been employed by ndi Anambra. One agender, one people, one Anambra. There is only one political party in the Anambra state house of assembly and it is “Project Anambra”.

” We all knew all the challenges we will be facing yet we applied for this job. The three arms of God have to work in together for the common purpose of making Anambra great. I urge you all to brace. Their is no time to waste . Their is a lot of work to be done and i pray that the 8th assembly will be the best in the entire nation.

“I can feel the energy and i know that Anambra will blosom. I will count on you for your corperation and partnership. Am counting on you and i know that this partinership will be a productive one.

“The oath of office that you swore is very power. read it everyday. If you act fully in accordance with oath you took, i have no doubt in my mind that this assembly will be a very productive one.
We are the light of the nation and we will be nothing less”

ANN reports that after the cacus meeting by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) the following principal officers where appointed;
Majority leader Hon. Ofodeme Ikenna. Chief whip Hon. Jude Njobili..Deputy majority leader Hon. Jude Akpua and deputy chief whip Hon. Patrick Udoba
