United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has cautioned that renewed full-scale conflict between the United States and Iran could have catastrophic effects on international stability and the world economy.
In a statement addressing recent military escalations, Guterres expressed deep concern over attacks in the region, including incidents in the Strait of Hormuz.
“These attacks must all stop. A return to full-scale conflict would have catastrophic consequences for the people of the Middle East, global peace and security, as well as the international economy,” he said.
The UN chief urged both Tehran and Washington to return to dialogue. “I urge Iran and the US to urgently resume negotiations and to address outstanding issues through diplomacy,” he added.
