Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has urged the youth of the South East to enlist in the Nigerian Armed Forces and reclaim their stake in Nigeria. He made this call during the wreath-laying ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Awka, Anambra State capital.
Soludo reflected on the 56th anniversary of the Nigerian Civil War, emphasizing that the “no victor, no vanquished” philosophy should guide the nation. He described the war as “needless” and paid tribute to fallen heroes, including members of the armed forces and their families.
The Governor lamented the low enlistment rates of Anambra indigenes in the national security architecture, calling it “self-marginalization”. He challenged the youth to see the military as a platform for national service and a way to secure their stake in the country. “We must participate as co-owners of Project Nigeria,” he said.
Soludo also appealed to those involved in violent agitation to surrender, saying “The terror era is over”. He commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their efforts, expressing confidence that the current wave of terror would be decisively dealt with.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Chief Judge Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, members of Anambra State Executive Council, Service Commanders, and Traditional Rulers, and featured a parade, wreath laying, and release of white pigeons.
