Who wants March 11 elections postponed

  • There is an ominous brooding stupor hanging over the Nigerian political space since the February 11 elections and the backlashes therefrom. And as the March 11 D day approaches for the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections, the tension is nerve wrecking across the nation.

In Anambra State, though there would only be house of assembly elections, the governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo is not off the hook. Rather, he is smelling it real hot from the Obidient Movement on one side and, on the other side, from aggrieved APGA members who are asking for a refund the party owed them during Obiano’s administration or they will “snuff out the remaining ember of life in the Okuko Ojukwu.”

Soludo has an ax to grind with Obidients, most of whom are APGAns, over his provocative statements on Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement. And as the clock ticks down to March 11, more hands have been placed on the social media deck to bombard the airspace with pro APGA campaign …an attempt to scuttle Obidients’ resolve to vote only Labour Party candidates into ANAMBRA State House of Assembly.

Rumor even has it that these Labour Party house of assembly hopefuls have a standing order to impeach Soludo. Even though this had been debunked by the Labour Party, you never can tell ife bu uche onye nya akpa asu akpu.

So, imagine how funny it sounded when I overheard an APGA stalwart telling his friend this morning that the March 11 elections will not hold. His reason was that the INEC were finding it hard to reconfigure the BVAS machines. But, I could smell some sigh of relief, even if just momentary, from the aura of this APGA stakeholder. They need time, more time to impress the masses who are now ready and out to ‘retire all the old politicians’. I begin to wonder what happened to Soludo TV? His administration is not getting the real time promotion it deserves.

Even in Lagos and across Nigeria, the apprehension has gained a historic crescendo. The Labour Party already has, out of nowhere with no structure, won 40 Federal National Assembly seats; six house of senate members and 34 house of representative members. They call it the Obi Tsunami. My heart goes out to my people losing their properties and lives to arsonists and the intimidated. The question remains; “who wants March 11 elections postponed?” You tell me.
