Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P and one half of the iconic music duo P-Square, has opened up about the downside of fame, saying he now yearns for a return to normal life after nearly three decades in the entertainment industry.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM, the singer revealed that despite once praying for success and stardom, he now disguises himself in public with facemasks, face caps, and sunglasses just to avoid being recognized by fans.
“Before, we used to pray for fame, but now when I go out or travel, I cover my face with a facemask, a face cap, and even sunglasses to avoid being spotted,” he said.
Peter confessed that he misses the simplicity of life before fame, particularly the joy of buying and eating hot roadside food like akara (bean cakes), bread, and soft drinks without being mobbed.
“There are days I want to stop by the roadside and buy food like hot akara, but I have to send someone else. By the time the person gets back, it’s no longer hot. I miss that life,” he added, calling such simple pleasures the “best burger ever.”
