Concerns about the six-part TV series “Shanty Town’s” nude scenes have been addressed by actress Ini Edo.
Ini Edo asserted in an interview with BBC Pidgin that it would be unrealistic to portray the shantytowns as being free from crime and indecency because these issues do in fact exist there.
Brown Sugar, as she is often known, said that it was time for people to stop equating a woman’s body with filthy ideas and start seeing it for what it is: an ordinary body.
The 40-year-old role interpreter who played ‘Inem’ in the movie said: “We hear the talk about nudity and everything. But people don’t realise you cannot say a story about shanty, prostitution rings, or crime that you won’t see guns, or nudity.
“People should realise it’s part of the story you’re trying to sell, not an attempt to debase anybody. Because at the end of the day, we have to start seeing the woman body for what it is, just a body God created without people’s mind travelling to different places.
“We are trying to create real life, near life situations. So, it’s inevitable for there to be nudity.”
