Wike Denies Demanding N20Bn Monthly, Contract Award From Gov. Fubara

The former governor of Rivers State and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike has said that nobody said anything about his alleged demands from the state government when was fighting to ensure Siminalayi Fubara won the 2023 governorship election.

Regarding the political crisis in Rivers State and the rift between him and Governor Fubara, the former governor said he was being accused of demanding N20 billion monthly and the award of contracts from the state government.

Mr Wike said this in a press conference on Thursday broadcast by Channels TV, adding that his fight with Fubara was all about political interest and relevance.

He said by virtue of his effort to ensure the victory of Fubara in the last governorship election in Rivers State, his interest in the state ought to be protected and respected within its political space.

He said, “He said they should give him 20 billion every month, oh he said he wants award of contracts for himself. That is politics. But nobody said this when I was fighting. Nobody said that.

“So if you like, accuse me from here till then, I would not even have a sleepless night because as far I am concerned, the right thing must be done. All of us need to be politically relevant.

“All of us want to maintain our political structure. Will you allow one to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base, is it not true? If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Wike accused his successor, Fubara of associating with his political enemies after getting into office.

Wike, during a meeting with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed on Wednesday in Abuja also said it was ridiculous for anyone to say his rift with Governor Fubara was because of money.

As recorded by Channels TV, Wike said blaming the issue on money was ridiculous because he recently left office as Rivers State governor and was now the Federal Capital Territory Minister.
