A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) known as ‘Umuada Ukpo N’Akwu N’Eziokwu’ in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State has officially been inaugurated.
The Chairman of the event, Dr. Obi Onwuakpa in his address, appreciated the women for initiating an organization that will pilot the growth and interest of the community, especially towards executing planned philanthropic projects.
Dr Onwuakpa advised them to live up to the name of the group and conduct a proper screening of prospective members of the group.
Onwuakpo encouraged the women to live as worthy embassadors of truth in their various homes, and the Ukpo community at large. He called on the women group to emulate positive lifestly as an exemplary model to up growing young ones and ensure that responsible women are inducted into the association.
In his words ” You have to ensure that the women you are going to induct are of good humane behavior and character. This will ensure that you achieve your mission and vision of forming this association”.
The Chairlady of the group, Mrs. Ifeoma Nweze said the group is made up of daughters of Ukpo married within or outside the community who came together to promote peace and development in the community.
She noted that the major aim of the group is to foster peace, development, unity and progress in Ukpo community through human capacity building by empowering youths and women through skills, formal education of under privileged children from primary to tertiary and supporting indigent families.
Adding that the long term goal is to raise financial independent families that will ensure sustainable development of Ukpo community.
Pointing out plans for the community, Mrs Nweze revealed that the association intends to train some children from primary school level through to the tertiary level, set up businesses for the youths for those who must have acquired basic skills, knowledge or education in the kind of business they want to embark on, give palliative in form of food distribution, easy and free access to health care and drugs especially among aged people and ensure that plan of God comes to bare on the land by constant prayers and supplication.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr R.C Eze Okofia VI, Eze Ukpo Dunukofia, ably represented by Chief Mike Eze prayed that good deeds and tidings be bestowed on the people of Ukpo community. He called on God to bless the association and give them the wisdom in piloting the affairs of the community.
A member of the group, Mrs. Ebele Onyakachukwu explained that the group is about standing for the truth and standing for the interest of the community, as they have visited a lot of motherless babies homes to support them.
Contributing, Mrs. Chidera Onyeocha said the group would also help to settle feuds between individuals and families through giving fair hearing to all and giving balanced judgment.
Chief Chinedu Nwaeze while speaking described the organisation as a group as women of truth and honesty and one of the strongest organization in Ukpo who are determined to make a difference in the community. He urged them to screen their members before allowing them to join.
Special highlights include selection of three women who will benefit from empowerment programme by December, ten children that will be sponsored through school, cutting of cake, presentation of gifts to widows and less privilege.
