The Young Progressive Party (YPP) has expelled a sitting member of the Anambra State House of Assembly for publicly endorsing Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a move the party said violates its code of conduct.
In a Monday statement, the YPP leadership declared that the expelled lawmaker, identified as Hon. [Name not disclosed in report], “acted against party interest and principles” by backing Soludo’s agenda. The party contended that such support contravenes loyalty obligations.
YPP’s National Chairman, Sunday Gibson, was quoted saying: “We cannot allow partisan betrayal. Endorsing a candidate from another party is incompatible with our core values.”
This decision is likely to stoke further tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in Anambra where political alliances are fluid. Observers say the expulsion signals the YPP’s resolve to enforce internal discipline, even at the risk of losing elected members.
